Meet Timea Papp | creative director/choreographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Timea Papp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Timea, why did you pursue a creative career?
I feel like there was no other path for me. I loved dancing as soon as I could walk and wanted to be a choreographer before I knew how to pronounce it. The ideas in my head wanted to be manifested onto stages, and in films. The need for expression was stronger than anything. I had this inner drive that directed my life. And with all the struggles and hard work, I am happy where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a choreographer, my journey is defined by versatility and a relentless drive for new impulses. I thrive on change and refuse to be confined to a single genre. My career has been a dynamic tapestry, weaving through various phases—four vibrant years in musicals, another four immersed in the world of TV shows, and then diving into the realms of contemporary dance fused with urban dances. I constantly switch gears, exploring different territories within the dance world. For me, stagnation is not an option; it’s this perpetual evolution that fuels my creativity and passion. In 2004 I was mesmerised by multi-media performances and created my unique style of interactive video mapping dance performances. My work was copied around the world, especially after our appearance on America’s Got Talent. As much as it hurt at first, I am just as proud now. Not to mention we traveled the world with it. My goal was fulfilled I wanted to show the invisible by combining the virtual world with live movements. After the pandemic, I was battling breast cancer which gave me a new perspective on life. My work is deeper and more joyful at the same time. I am working on movies now as a movement director, coach, and choreographer which suits me perfectly as it is as versatile as it can be from medieval ballroom scene to 80’s New York disco you name it I switch in an instant.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends are coming from out of town I drag them around clubs and places where there’s live music. Super Soul Monday is a must. No Vacancy is one of the best spots. And for a full experience, The Circus of Sins is the show to see. Daytime is the beach for me Malibu and its surroundings. And I must take my visitors to Venice for a good spin on rollerskates along with checking out hot skaters in the park. I am not a hiker as I am terrified of snakes but to show a great view of LA I can get myself together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to Tanya Jane who helped me around in the dance world when I moved to LA. She’s an amazing dancer and now a successful mindset coach, at the time she assisted me in my creative process and also organized dancers, rehearsals and so many things around my company.
