We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Maticic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I honestly don’t think I would be where I am today in my career if I hadn’t taken a risk. I’ve been working Free Lance since I graduated college and early on in my career there would be months where I didn’t know how I would pay rent but sometimes that’s the risk you have to take to get to where you want. I hustled, made connections and started to find myself more consistent work but I found myself at a cross roads. I was working in production management in NYC and wasn’t happy in the direction I was headed, I needed a change. I had maybe 4 connections in Los Angeles and reached out to them all to see if there was a possibility of me finding work out there, and thats when it all changed. 3 Months later I moved to LA after booking a week long gig on So You Think You Can Dance as a Production Assistant. I had no idea what I was going to do after that week but I felt it in my gut that it was the right decision. Since moving to LA, there hasn’t been a month where I haven’t worked and it brought me to So You Think You Can Dance which eventually led me to my first Associate Producer gig on that very show. Now being a Producer who works in both the Field and Post Production I couldn’t be happier with the risks I have taken because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be fulfilling my dream of creating television .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am extremely passionate about being a reality television producer. When I first started my career I wanted to work in scripted but then I fell into Reality Television. I didn’t realize it at the time how much story telling actually happens in reality until I actually started Producing. It wasn’t until then that I found out that a Producer will literally do it all. We write, direct, work in post, and see the entire story come through from start to finish. There’s something special about being able to tell someones story that is really fulfilling and I love what I do because of it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend is coming to LA, the first place we’re headed is Santa Monica and we’re hitting up the beach, third street Promenade and then getting dinner at The Rose. Would have to do a studio tour at either Warner Brothers or Sony and then check out Hollywood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my friend and mentor Chris Sullivan. He has helped me tremendously in my career giving me guidance from when I interned under him and still to this day, 10 years later. Thank you Chris!
