We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Entertainment is the business of taking risks. Before starting my career, I had no reference of how much risk their actually is in this industry. Their are an innumerable amount of ways to reach a self-defined level of success, and an even greater amount of ways to fail. This assumption may be interpreted as a viewpoint of pessimism, but in my case I find this challenge exciting. Delving into unknown territory with the intent of absorbing my environment and aiming to overcome the circumstance(s) which make it foreign to me, has been the catalyst to climbing the ladder in my professional pursuits. I often find conducting this balance of remote exploration and familiar complacency highly conducive to assessing what risks are beneficial to take. Blindly jumping into risky situations requires little to no mental or moral courage, but having the experience and knowledge of my own limitations while at the same time evaluating the potential reward a given circumstance may bring; builds a greater sense of strength to push these limitations. In a field consisting of incredibly creative people, venturing outside the boundaries results in profound works of art. What’s remarkable about artists and the world of entertainment, is that their is no limit to creativity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started No Solution Films for the sole purpose of making films with good people. Keeping this idea in mind has given me some of the greatest experiences. My job allows me to travel and meet new people constantly, so I’m most excited about what else I’ll be able to do on my career path. I’ve gotten this far by consistently dedicating at least an hour a day to my craft, outside of being on set. This can include writing exercises, sharpening editing and visual effects techniques, or breaking down a film. By no means would I call this line of work, easy. This industry changes at an incredible rate, so it’s integral to anticipate these changes, and adapt to them as much as possible. A general lesson I’ve learned is that for anyone interested in starting a career in filmmaking, make a film. In this day and age there are a number of ways to generate a film that is accessible to anybody with a phone or computer. After that you’ll have a better idea of what you want to do and if making films is a good fit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend and I had a week in L.A. then the major sites to see are car shows and Dodger games, One day would be spent on the east side of town doing a few rounds of paintball at Hollywood Sports, and then hitting a brewery like Angel City or Boomtown. On other days that are more relaxed we would be on the west side grabbing food down Abbot Kinney and catching a show at Westside Comedy Theater.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give my gratitude to an incredibly talented director of photography, Michael Edo Keane. He took me under his wing and shared his knowledge of filmmaking with me when I was nineteen years old and just started my second year of college. His experience both in front and behind the camera made him an overall skilled filmmaker. I’m grateful to call him a friend and mentor. Immense appreciation goes to my brother Henry Marquis. He is a creative director of photography, a visionary, and one of the hardest working guys I know. I can’t count the number of times I’ve called him regarding a film – anywhere from pre-production to post. He has a firm grasp on the concepts of visual storytelling that continues to grow after every project. Thank you for all that you’ve done. I appreciate all my friends and family that have supported me.
