We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Prindle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
As Rocky Balboa said to his son, “It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. You’ve got to be willing to take the hits and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you want to be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”

Whenever I run into a struggle I ask myself a very simple question. Am I blaming someone else or am I taking accountability for my decision or choice?

Let me tell you something. As a life-long farrier, working on over 100,000 horses, one of the strongest lessons I’ve learned is that if I get kicked it is nearly always my fault. And quite frankly the horse doesn’t care if you blame it so you might as well change yourself and what caused you to get kicked in the first place. This perspective I believe has been the most important factor behind my success. With horses and with life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a farrier, I put shoes on horses’ feet, kind of like a blacksmith. Horseshoeing hasn’t really changed that much in 100 years, but what makes me different is that I use special rubber/polyurethane horseshoes on my horses to encourage better circulation in the hooves. The process is the same as steel by nailing the shoes onto the hoof or sometimes using glue. I’m also a specialist in barefoot trimming, helping domesticated horses have strong enough hooves to go without shoes.

My other side is the film producer world. I first moved to Los Angeles years ago, like many others, seeking to make it big as an actor. Luckily, I had horses to put the food on the table. I’ve been blessed to have booked several commercials and tv shows throughout the years but there was something more I had yet to experience—making my own film. My acting coach said, “Tim, don’t you have a western script you can shoot or something?” So I drug out an old feature film script I wrote when I was 19 years old and we made plans to rewrite and shoot it. Now a days it has nothing to do with making it big. Now I simply want to tell a raw and truthful story. If I could tell my younger acting self one thing it would be this: stop chasing and start creating.

Our supernatural/western feature entitled Hunter Grail has been down one heck of a road creating itself. I am incredibly proud of the amazing people who have seen the passion behind it and added their own talents to making it what it is today.

Nothing about my horse business or film business is easy that’s for sure. Keeping a clearly defined vision of an outcome is imperative to overcoming obstacles. When you are making a film for instance, the end outcome will happen but how you get there very often isn’t how you expected. So there is a balance that must occur to taking action and letting go.

There is great strength in our creative spirit. This is Freedom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I might take my friends on a little adventure hike at Wildwood Canyon Park in the Burbank hills. Just a 30 minute summit will bring you to a beautiful vista overlooking the city. Then a quick change of shoes and a jaunt not far from the park brings you to the slightly hidden Castaway restaurant. I love this place because you still get a fabulous view of the city and a huge patio with fire pits to sit and sip whiskey. Especially romantic in the evening.

Lunch or dinner at the beautiful Paradise Cove would be another day. The atmosphere is fun and family friendly where you can eat and relax on the beach.

For more of a moody evening in Hollywood, we’d visit one of my favorite bars, No Vacancy, a hidden bar with a mysterious darker vibe. Or for a bit more energy — Saddle Ranch Hollywood — where I won second place in the mechanical bull riding competition!

For a lazy day, there is something special about just hanging out around the old carousal where Walt Disney used to frequent and imagined Disneyland. You can still ride this little Merry-Go-Round in Griffith Park.

Other fun day trips I would include are the Griffith Observatory, The Getty, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and Descanso Gardens.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been a rock of encouragement. Growing up in a small town in upstate NY, my family taught me to love all people, live with integrity, and to stand up for what is right.

Also, when I was about 18, in my bull riding days, I had drawn the one bull that was slathered with wet manure. I was complaining about it to a fellow bull rider and that kid looked at me like I had two heads. He said, “You ain’t makin love to it…get on!” I’d like to give a shoutout to that kid. I don’t remember his name.

And the one book that changed my life in regards to money and achieving financial freedom: Payback Time by Phil Town.
