We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Tristan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
For me, it comes down to listening to the deeper voice within myself—the one that’s not driven by fear or doubt, but by passion and purpose. As an artist, whether I’m dancing, creating fine art, or designing for businesses, I remind myself why I started in the first place: to create, to express, and to connect with others on a profound level.

There have been moments where the challenges seemed overwhelming, and I’ve questioned whether to keep going. But I always return to this: Do I still feel called to this work? Does it ignite something in me that nothing else can? If the answer is yes, then I know it’s worth persevering.

Giving up is not about failure—it’s about redirecting energy when something no longer serves your growth or aligns with your vision. But as long as my work, whether in dance, art, or helping businesses, contributes meaningfully to society and inspires others, I’ll keep pushing forward. Challenges will come, but they’re part of the path. The question isn’t “Should I give up?” but “How can I pivot, grow, and keep moving closer to what I’m meant to create.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art, for me, is about creating worlds—spaces where emotions are heightened, stories are told, and people are moved in ways they may not expect. I’ve always felt a calling to blend different forms of art into one cohesive experience. As a dancer, fine artist, and now an emerging filmmaker, I aim to merge movement, music, and visual storytelling to create something truly unique.

I’m currently writing a script for a full-length independent feature film, a dark fantasy spectacle that has been my lifelong dream. This project is a culmination of everything I love: the drama and power of dance, the transformative energy of music, and the deep emotional storytelling that only film can provide. I’m collaborating with brilliant performers and artists to make this vision a reality, and it’s an exciting new chapter in my creative journey.

Getting to where I am today professionally hasn’t been easy. There were times when I questioned whether I was on the right path, especially in an industry that can feel overwhelming and isolating. But I’ve learned to trust the process and surround myself with people who believe in me—friends like Omaira Nightshade, who have inspired me to keep going when I felt like giving up, and my mom, Sonja Tristan, whose support has been unwavering.

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that resilience and authenticity are everything. The creative path isn’t linear, and success doesn’t come overnight. There’s beauty in the struggle and the small victories along the way. I’ve also learned that collaboration is key—great art comes from working with others who bring their unique talents and perspectives.

What sets me apart is my ability to blend mediums and create immersive experiences. Whether it’s a dance performance, a fine art piece, or a design project for a business, I strive to connect with people on a deeper level and leave a lasting impression.

Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the world in a meaningful way through my art. My story is about perseverance, creativity, and the belief that our dreams are worth pursuing. I want the world to know that no matter how difficult the journey, your voice and vision are valid—and that art, in all its forms, has the power to change lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is such a vibrant, diverse city, and there’s truly something for everyone here. While recent fires have tragically impacted some of my favorite places, my itinerary would still celebrate the incredible energy and creativity that makes LA so special.

Day 1: Universal Fun & CityWalk
We’d kick things off at Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk. Whether you’re a fan of movies, thrill rides, or just great food and shopping, this is the perfect place to start. We’d wrap up with a nighttime stroll through CityWalk to soak in the lights and energy.

Day 2: Exploring West Hollywood
A day in WeHo is a must. From brunch at a chic café to exploring the boutiques, followed by an evening visiting the fun, inclusive gay clubs on Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood is all about great vibes and connection.

Day 3: Los Feliz & Indie Film Magic
We’d spend the morning at Café La Villa’s in Los Feliz for a delicious breakfast burrito, then catch a cute indie film at the iconic Vista Theatre. Afterward, we’d head to my favorite spot—Horror Vibes Coffee—for incredible themed drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Above all else, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my good friend Omaira Nightshade. Sometimes, we all face moments where we question ourselves or feel like giving up. Omaira has been one of those rare and special people who inspire me to keep going, keep creating, and hold space for me to grow. Her unwavering support and belief in me have been a guiding light during challenging times, reminding me of my potential and pushing me to dream bigger.

I also want to recognize my mom, Sonja Tristan, who has always believed in my creative spirit and encouraged me to pursue my passions no matter what. My partner, Rance Fire, deserves endless credit as well for his constant encouragement, love, and belief in me.

Lastly, I’m grateful to the mentors, collaborators, and artists who’ve played a role in my journey and inspired me to embrace my identity and creative path unapologetically. Each person has left a lasting impact on me, and I wouldn’t be here without them.
