Meet Tina Hogan Grant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Hogan Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina Hogan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Becoming an author wasn’t something I planned; it found me later in life. I’ve always loved reading, and growing up with a father who was an author gave me a deep respect for the discipline and dedication it takes to write a book.
My journey began with a message I couldn’t ignore. In my twenties, I lived in a relationship where my life was dictated by an addict. Years later, that experience stayed with me. I knew other women were living in silence, and I wanted to share my story in a way that might help them feel less alone.
The book didn’t come immediately; life had to unfold first. But when I finally sat down to write “Reckless Beginnings,” something shifted. A new passion was born. What started as one story became a calling. Since my debut in 2018, I’ve written seventeen books, and I truly love what I do. Writing didn’t just change my career; it changed me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Most of my stories are inspired by real-life experiences; lessons I’ve learned, challenges I’ve faced, and the growth that came afterward. I write about strong women navigating difficult seasons. My characters face relatable struggles: family conflict, grief, betrayal, fear, and they don’t magically overcome them. They wrestle with them.
What sets my work apart is the emotional depth. I dive into the psychology behind why my characters make the choices they do. I explore their history, their fears, and the turning points that lead to transformation. My books are raw and honest, no fluff. Just real human emotion and the possibility of hope.
Writing my debut, Reckless Beginnings, was the hardest thing I’ve ever done creatively. It forced me to revisit a dark chapter of my life and confront the fear that once controlled me. The fear of change, the fear of raising my son alone, the fear of stepping into the unknown. But in writing it, I found clarity and strength.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is this: fear shrinks when you face it. Writing gave me confidence, not just as an author, but as a woman. And when a reader reaches out to say one of my stories helped them through their own difficult season, that’s when I know the vulnerability was worth it.
At the heart of my brand is this message: you are stronger than you think.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Frazier Park, a small mountain town about an hour north of Los Angeles. It’s quiet, scenic, and surrounded by nature; the perfect reset from city life.
We’d spend our mornings hiking the beautiful trails nearby, packing lunches and exploring the outdoors. We’re fortunate to have three stunning lakes within reach: Pyramid Lake, Castaic Lake, and Lake Piru. One day would definitely be kayaking on Pyramid Lake; it’s peaceful, breathtaking, and one of my favorite places to unplug.
Another highlight would be a trip to Avalon on Catalina Island, a setting so special it inspired my novel “Dream Big.” We’d take the ferry (or our boat if we’re feeling adventurous), spend the day strolling through town, enjoying fresh seafood at one of the waterfront restaurants, snorkeling in the clear blue water, and maybe renting a golf cart to explore more of the island.
For me, the best experiences aren’t about flashy attractions; they’re about connection, conversation, and soaking in the beauty around you. That’s the kind of week I’d plan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up, I watched him work a full-time job to support our family while writing late into the night. He never treated his dream like a hobby. He treated it like a commitment. His persistence paid off and he went on to write thirty-seven novels and built an incredible legacy.
More than anything, he taught me that dreams aren’t achieved through inspiration alone; they’re achieved through consistency. He was my mentor long before I ever realized I would follow in his footsteps. His example gave me the courage to pursue my own voice when the time came.
