Meet TK Randell | YouTuber

We had the good fortune of connecting with TK Randell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TK, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always find it funny to call my YouTube channel my business.
I started making videos because it was what I loved doing! Granted, things took off a bit and now the day-to-day does feel a little more business-like, but it always just started by trying to make people laugh!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My YouTube journey was a 5 year struggle.
I started by editing videos for other major YouTube channels. I feel like I’m always rooted to my core as an editor, and even to this day I still edit most of my videos because I really enjoy the work!
But then one day I decided to just try making my own videos instead of editing for others. And for 3 years that’s what I did, to very little success. I sweated out 1 YouTube video a week, every week, to an almost non-existent audience. I remember the nights of staying up until 4 am just to finish a video that only 50 people might watch, and then wake up just a few hours later to go to work.
I look back very fondly at those late nights. And it’s honestly one of my greatest motivations now today. I’m so grateful for my audience and now when I’m still staying up at 4 am to finish my videos, it’s so cool to know that someone is now excitedly waiting at their computer screens for it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We will definitely be heading to some fun events! Premieres and pop-ups are some of my favorite things to attend.
For food, tons of trips to Koreatown! I’m half Korean, so places like the Koreatown Plaza with their adorable 70s style food court is such a vibe.
And heading to 3rd Street Promenade for pickleball, shopping, and drinks is always a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would just shoutout all the other YouTubers.
My love for making videos starting by watching other people do it first. Smosh, Freddiew, the pioneers of our video world.
So I would just say I’m so grateful for those that came before me, and I hope I could have that kind of impact on some kid who is thinking about chasing this crazy dream as well!
