Meet Todd Anderson | Actor, Writer, and Acting Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Todd Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Todd, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As an actor, taking risks is very important. I would say choosing to be an actor is a giant risk unto itself. In my coaching, I encourage risk taking. I did some pretty wild things when I worked on the FXX comedy series You’re the Worst, and if I hadn’t have been up for them, the comedy wouldn’t have been as rich as it is.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There is no magic bullet to having a career as an actor. Every journey is different, every struggle individual. I’ve been working as an actor for nearly three decades, and that itself is probably what I’m most proud of. It isn’t easy, and it doesn’t get much easier with experience. It took a lot of experience to get to the place I’m in now, where I know how to attack any material, understanding the tone of the project and what they might be looking for from me. Two stand out performances of mine are as Vernon in You’re the Worst and Murphy Dunn in the indie movie Fuzz Track City.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take my bestie to the Italian place called Novecento in Culver City, and then check out the historic Culver Hotel across the street, take a walk around the various studio lots in the area, and maybe even visit the Museum of Jurassic Technology while we’re there. And if possible, I’d introduce him to Dee Wallace, because she is a legend and a delight.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shout out to my reps, Wright Entertainment Inc., AMT Artists, and CESD Talent. Also, I’d like to shout out to Stephen Falk, creator of You’re the Worst, where I was treated to playing a great character with great writers. And I especially want to shout out to Hilary Anderson, my wife and constant supporter of my work.
