We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Reimonenq III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tony, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because it pursued me first! Since I was little, my gifts have always made room for me. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned how my gifts impact others and that encourages me to keep going. Our gifts and talents are nothing if we don’t share them with others, so I’m happy to be able to share mine with the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My unique personality and lived experiences are what set me apart from others. I’ve always overcome obstacles that could have stopped me from achieving my purpose. For example, I stutter and I’m from a state where access to art and theatre is limited. What could have been a barrier was actually a blessing. Jumping those hurdles instilled a great work ethic in me that has gotten me to this point in my career. I’m happy as I think back on my journey so far. It excites me because this is only the beginning! Although it has not been easy, I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned.

Years of feeling like I didn’t fit in taught me to how to have confidence and self worth. I’ve been practicing that since I was young and I feel like those two traits have taken me to where I am professionally. Being secure in myself and my abilities allows me to walk in spaces and add light and joy because I come to connect and not compete.

All these traits about me and my work are what my entire brand is. My platform, Tonytopia seeks to inspire and encourage confidence and self worth in others. We take our lived experiences and unique personalities and embrace them. We promote authenticity and love.

I’m excited that all things are working together!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Happy hour at Laurel Hardware! Hands down! The vibes are always so nice in the outdoor area. The Edition is really fun too. I love going there with my friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout everyone who gave me space to use my gifts in my developmental years. It’s honestly so many people, but I’m grateful for them all! My parents, grandparents, church choir and drama ministry directors played an integral part of shaping my story. They planted seeds in me in my younger years that led me to joining StageStruck Performance Studio in middle school. That was my first experience in musical theatre and I fell in love. I started seeing performance as a sport after that. I joined my high school’s competition theatre department and show choir. I have so much gratitude for Suzanne Allmon and Darren Dale. My theatre and show choir directors. Those four years of high school were really four years of training and sharpening my skills. Traveling across the country to compete against other high schools was my first experience of touring and prepared me for the professional world.
