We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Tzar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tony, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art got me through some of the toughest times of childhood and adulthood. Once I graduated high school, I knew if I could just be a vessel to help contribute inspiration, encouragement, empowerment, hope, and/or the peace art has given to me, to others’ lives via art …….. I would be fulfilling a divine purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since my younger years as a creative I feel my spiritual connection to dance mixed with my vast cultural upbringing had set me apart from the rest. Whether it be my choreography, clothing, stage direction, or film; you will always find cultural, spiritual, and creative innovation and inspiration in my art.

Being an innovative creative in the entertainment industry is not always easy. To be honest most times it can feel like swimming upstream, but I now see every challenge and adversity as an opportunity for growth and transcendence contingent upon how I choose to face them. I don’t always win but losses and win both work for your good as long as you don’t give up.

I’ve learned so much in my 20+ years in the game but I feel my most important lesson I’ve learned up to date is the my self-worth should never be based on other people’s opinions nor on my ability to please them. I feel with the industry measuring artists’ success via “popularity contests”, accolades , and superlatives; it’s easy to start holding ourselves to these standards and try to either start to try to fit into boxes not meant for us or pleasing the masses to create a lane or feel worthy of love and appreciation. The process of this lesson was one of my most painful, but also life changing, in the best way!

These days if one experiences me they will be experiencing the most authentic, spirit-filled, and love-driven version of me yet. I’m here to help others heal and ascend through my journey of the same.

Lately, I would say the accomplishment I’m most proud of is not giving up. My tenacity, diligence, and faith has allowed me to work with some amazing projects and artists such as Josh Levi, Metro-Boomin, Mariah Carey, CL, Missy Elliot, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, and more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay, so anybody that knows me knows that if you’re visiting me in LA …….. we’re going hiking! Three of my favorites are Griffith Park, Tree People, and Point Dume(Malibu). That would be the morning activities. Then brunch at either Solar De Cahuenga Cafe, Lady Byrd cafe, or Mama Shelter for rooftop vibes. As for nightlife, I love Silverlake as a whole! Bar Flores(silverlake) for the best Mezcal Margaritas, Station 1640(Mondays) for the best soulful karaoke and good time, Goldmasters Recordings for good drinks and atmosphere, and Bar Lis(Tuesdays) for an amazing Jazz Night. I also don’t believe in FULL ITINERARIES. Los Angeles is a city with a grand energetic flow, I believe it’s always wise to leave room for the city to guide you to a lookout spot, beach, museum, underground party, concert, or etc. Possibilities are endless here lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my mother. She is my first dance teacher, supporter, and inspiration for art. I would not be who I am without her existence, love, and sacrifices.
