Meet Tramelle Stroman | Writer/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tramelle Stroman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tramelle, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For me, creativity was never a choice; it was a calling. Growing up as the youngest of six, movies were more than just entertainment in our household. They were a tradition. Watching films like Rocky, The Last Dragon, and Back to the Future, along with classic TV shows like Martin, wasn’t just about the action or the spectacle. It was about the emotion. The way those films and shows made me feel excited, inspired, and sometimes even devastated made me realize I wanted to be part of that, whether behind the camera or in front of it.
Even as a kid, I was drawn to the art of storytelling. I wasn’t just watching movies, I was studying them, imagining myself in those worlds, and figuring out how they were brought to life. That passion never left me. Eventually, I found myself more and more connected to the process, picking up a camera, writing screenplays, and creating my own vision. That’s what pushed me to pursue filmmaking, not just as a career but as a way to create moments that stick with people long after the credits roll, just like those movies and shows did for me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artistic expression comes from the unique experiences I had growing up in Staten Island, New York, specifically in my neighborhood of Mariners Harbor. Despite the area being often overlooked or not widely recognized, it was full of unique people, events, and situations that sparked my creativity. The unpredictability of that environment, with its diverse characters and everyday occurrences, fueled my imagination and shaped the stories I tell today.
Reaching this point in my career has been the result of determination and the ability to turn negatives into positives. I never waited for opportunities to come to me. Instead, I went out and created them. With every project, I’ve grown as an artist, and that’s what sets me apart from others. In a world obsessed with instant viral success, I’m in this for the long haul. I want longevity in this industry.
This journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve sacrificed and lost a lot along the way, but through it all, I never gave up or compromised who I am. The driving force behind everything I do are my children. I want to show them that it’s okay to not fit into societal norms and that it’s okay to be exactly what you want to be.
Along the way, I’ve learned invaluable lessons. Attending film school at the start of the pandemic was a true challenge. It taught me to use every resource available and made me realize just how much I love this art form. Creating during such a dark time in history solidified my commitment. I’ve learned that if you want people to believe in you, you have to believe in yourself and always keep God first.
I want the world to know that I bring something fresh and innovative to the table. I’m an original storyteller with unique, captivating stories to tell. If you’re looking for something different, something that pushes boundaries, I’m that guy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting L.A. for a week, I’d make sure to show them the best this city has to offer. First stop would be Mel’s Diner in West Hollywood. Afterward, we’d head to one of the countless rooftop lounges in the city. We’d grab a drink, soak in the stunning views of the skyline, and let the vibes set in.
The rest of the week would be dedicated to the beach. We’d hit up Venice Beach or Santa Monica, where we could just kick back, people-watch, and take in the breeze. The weather here is too perfect to be cooped up inside, so we’d spend plenty of time outdoors, enjoying the sun, the sand, and the amazing lifestyle California has to offer.
To add some variety, I’d take them to a Laker game, preferably against the New York Knicks. I’m a die-hard Knicks fan and there’s nothing like experiencing the energy of the game live. The crowd, the atmosphere, and the intensity would make it a memorable part of the trip.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Success is never a solo journey, and I’m grateful for the people and experiences that have shaped me along the way. First and foremost, I want to give a huge shoutout to my entire family. Watching movies together as a kid wasn’t just entertainment; it was the foundation of my love for filmmaking. My mother, Barbara, instilled faith, resilience, and creativity in me, and my stepdad, Anthony, showed me the power of an entrepreneurial mindset.
I also have to recognize the visionaries who redefined cinema for me, such as Spike Lee, John Singleton, Antoine Fuqua, and Jordan Peele, who told stories with authenticity and power. Their work made me believe that I, too, could bring meaningful stories to life.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge every collaborator and supporter who has been part of my journey. Filmmaking is a collective art, and I wouldn’t be where I am without the talented people who have challenged and inspired me along the way. I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey so far.
