Meet Tranee Nicole: Graduate Student and Founder of Ifemi Wellness

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tranee Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tranee, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Everyday, we are all taking calculated risks, both consciously and subconsciously. The challenge for a conscious person is how to live in the present while preparing for tomorrow. As for me, I try to find balance between the two modes. I was telling someone my personal story and how I metaphorically “jumped with a parachute.” In the present, I want to focus on improving my health, and for the future, I want to create a business that supports healing for hundreds across various communities. Deciding to attend school while building a business is very challenging and risky but also somewhat stable. I have a semi-set schedule, I have the support of my community, and access to so many resources to enrich my education and business. The risks I consider are standard for any business: liability, business debt, customer service, overstock and more. I am taking it one day at a time and focusing on what is enjoyable about this journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Ifemi Wellness is simply an online retail store where Traditional Medicine Meets Modern Needs. I am in awe of the wisdom of our global ancestors and how so many practices and herbal formulas are clinically relevant today. I am earning my master’s to formally understand the mechanisms of different phytoconstituents and of various therapeutic modalities so I am equipped to provide the best care. What sets me apart from others is my personal flair that I bring to the business. There is a Chinese proverb that says, “No man is a good doctor who has never been sick himself.” When you have suffered and healed, you have empathy, compassion and wisdom that can really be valuable to someone.
When I look back, I am most proud of my consistency and dedication. I’ve been keeping at it for at least a year and am gaining new customers each day. I am taking feedback I’ve received and improving how I share information and promote products. I have learned that you should always promote what you genuinely love, and I notice I get the most resonance when I pour my heart into whatever I am doing for the business. Sometimes I spend at least 3 or 4 hours trying to perfect an Instagram post, or spend months developing and testing a new product.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As cliche as it sounds, I love the beach and never get tired of it. I would take my visiting friend and I to a beach cafe and enjoy brunch on the water. Malibu, the Palisades, and even Venice are favorites. Hermosa is a great beach, so is Redondo and Manhattan. I’d like to drive out further on the coast and visit more beaches. This may sound boring, but I just want to eat healthy food, hear the waves, and absorb the negative ions from nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout out to Inclusively Well, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is committed to providing opportunity and access to acupuncture and high-quality holistic healthcare, with a focus on serving BIPOC, people with disabilities, immigrants, and the LGBTQIA+ community. They were one of the first groups to support my health and business endeavors, and they welcomed me to sell some of my products at one of their pop-up events.
