We had the good fortune of connecting with Trey Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trey, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Keep going. Always keep going. I can’t give up on my dreams knowing I only have 1 chance here on earth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I hear my music in colors. A lot of my beats are made from real and personal feelings. I think it helps the artist dive into deeper thoughts when they are writing. I aim to make my music something you’ve never heard before. I don’t box myself in either. I make beats for many genres of music; rap, R&B, house, electric, Afro beats, rock. There’s no limit. One of the reasons I chose a TV for my logo is because it represents my music. Like how each channel has a different show, each album or song I work on is something different.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It all starts with Michael Jackson. When I was 5/6 years old I remember MJ being my favorite, I wanted to sing and dance just like him. Then around 15/16 years old I knew I for sure I wanted to do music. Heavily inspired by Kanye west early production with soul samples up to 808s and heartbreak, I knew I wanted to be a producer, so I saved up and bought a iPad and taught my self how to make beats. Also shout out to Kobe Bryant for mamba mentality. Big shout out to Dayo Gold, Paris, Sax B, Latrell, and everyone that has supported my music.
