We had the good fortune of connecting with Trina Lykes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My Work life balance changed because of the pandemic and retirement. Working in the Legal Industry for over 30 years created the discipline and infrastructure for the lifestyle l can live now, but l had to neglect the creative side. So l am devoting time to God in the creative process by creating “strait gate” Gospel Music…and spending quality family time, while more comfortably incorporating time for my business
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wrote my first song at 13 years old and l have had three record deals RSO Records, Airwaves Records and Atlantic Records/Parkplace Records. Now l am excited to write, produce and record my sound, which is Strait Gate Gospel. 30 years ago being a female artist carried so many restrictions but now l can write and sing in my jazzy/pop/r&b style with only God to please.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Malibu first stop..to relax and enjoy the ocean and see why l moved here from Chicago, brunch and cocktails at the Biltmore Hotel, Santa Barbara, beautiful with delicious food and George’s On The Cove in San Diego, good music playing on 2 hr ride and ending at my Church keeping The Sabbath!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Trinity Martinez and Fontaine Lykes
