Meet Trinh Tran | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trinh Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trinh, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think balance is about priority. My priority changes at different stages in life. When I am able to address what’s my focus of the day, the month, the year and the future, then it makes it easy to make a decision and thus keep the balance. Sometimes, it’s hard to maintain the balance I want, but it’s actually a good thing when it’s off. That’s when the universe is telling me that I should take a second to slow down and take a look at the picture and make adjustments.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art, mainly oil paintings, invites viewers to an immersive experience where natural elements are seen through an ethereal glass window. Subjects vary from small yet magnified falling dried flowers, revealing their intricacy, to the visual juxtaposition of cutting down heavy logs being enveloped by fragile, delicate leaves.
To me, art serves as a potent medium, capable of eliciting deep emotions, giving voice to unexpressed thoughts, and fostering a safe and shared space for meaningful conversations.
Art is a therapeutic medicine that parallels the healing power of nature itself. In a way, nature is art and art is an extension of nature. One’s interpretation and sentiment towards nature can be as transcending as art allows.
It has been a beautiful journey. Yes there are times when it’s difficult. Mostly it’s self doubt about if I am able to achieve what others can. But I realize, it’s not about others or my capability. It’s about the value and beauty that my art delivers. In addition, I always produce the most interesting and satisfying works when I am out of my comfort zones. These days, I am trying to embrace the difficulties more and transform them into opportunities.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is like a macro magical land. It’s definitely the place of various cultures, creativity, food, and art lovers where people constantly create and at the same time get inspired. When it comes to food, there’s the Silver Lake area with delicious food with good vibes and interesting people. You can also have a range of options from Little Tokyo to Smorgasburg, Ktown, and Pasadena… There are tons of fun bars for all kinds of fun and people you’re looking for. I personally enjoy dancing and connecting, so I normally go to social dance at the Granada LA, then maybe hitting bars later would be ideal. During daytime, there’s museums like LACMA (free second Tuesday of every month), the Broad, the Getty, OCMA.. plus hundreds of galleries where there’s almost openings every day of the week. It’s definitely a great chance to connect with people and see the current trend of the art world. Even though LA is a big city, nature is within reach with beautiful waterfalls and spectacular lookouts, to name some are Switzer Falls, Millard Falls, Mt Baldy,… LA is also the place where you can express yourself freely with fashion. And the best part is, you have a big community who will be amazed by your sense of fashion and slay together. With the LA fashion week happening, it’s an awesome opportunity to hang out with interesting and fashionable people. Shoutout to LA!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It has to be my mom. She always believes in me when I am at my low and high. Her unconditional love amazes me countless times. I made a decision to become an artist a few years back. It was an unsure decision, but passionate and hopeful. Since then, she’s no doubt my number one supporter. I call her when I make progress on my art; when I feel blocked in my creativity; when I have my first solo show. It’s truly amazing to have my mom who cherishes my biggest achievements in life and stand by my side when life gets tough. Shoutout to mom!
