Meet Tyler Beveridge | Actor/Writer/Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Beveridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Be patient. The work will come.”
I wholeheartedly disagree with this. In my experience, sitting around and waiting for jobs or gigs or anything to come to you is going to be spent sitting around doing nothing. You have to do it yourself. I’ve had more filmmaking/acting jobs because I went out and networked or met people on set or wrote my own things in the past two years than I have received from my agents. I love my agents. They work hard for me, but they can only do so much. It is a very tough time in the film industry on all fronts and you have to be proactive. You have to go out and search for these gigs. Is it difficult? Yes. Would I rather be at home and receive an email from my agent about an audition? Of course. But it isn’t always the case. Go out and network. Go out and meet other passionate filmmakers. Go out and make your own stuff. Who knows what will come of it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actor/writer/producer living in LA. What we call in the biz “a multi hyphinated creative”. I have been an actor since high school and since moving to LA I have had great success on numerous commercials for Skype, Geico, and Hilton to name a few. I have had Co-star roles in a couple of big name shows, but I was getting impatient for the roles I wanted to play. The meatier roles. Then the world shut down and I just started writing roles for me. Not necessarily the lead, but characters I wanted to play. I found people just as passionate about creating as me and I started producing these short films. I found that I enjoyed creating films (especially in the horror genre) from scratch and seeing them build. Since the pandemic and with my fellow artist Sean Cruser I have made 6 short films in the horror genre. All gaining different successes at festivals and on streaming platforms. One such short, Jingle Hell, has a streaming deal on Screambox and has over 100k views on YouTube and counting. I learned that if I wanted to create something that I wanted to play, in a genre I love, then I have to do it myself. Learning to write screenplays, learning to produce, learning and appreciating all these other aspects of filmmaking that my tiny little actor brain took for granted. With each film I get sharper and more precise and I am now onto writing my first feature film. I have met a plethora of wonderful artist along the way. Artists with a passion to create just like me. Who aren’t willing to wait to climb the ladder, but would rather build their own ladder with wood and duct tape. (I’m bad at analogies). I plan to climb my own ladder and make my own things for a long time and hopefully people enjoy them. If not, I do, and that’s all that matters. I know I sound like a broken record, but if you are an artist in any capacity GO MAKE STUFF. Don’t wait for others to give you the go ahead. Do it and you may be surprised by what comes out of it. I know I am. I can’t wait to see what we create next!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I’m an Eastside guy. I live on the Eastside of LA in a tiny little one horse town called Pasadena. I’m kidding of course, Pasadena is huge and home to the Rose Bowl, but more importantly the Rose Bowl parade. If you happen to be visiting on any other weekends other than New Year’ weekend then I’d say check out some amazing east side eateries instead. Connals in Altadena for a delicious grinder or Millie’s for amazing breakfast food. Hironori is an incredible Ramen place on Lake Ave. For coffee (there are so many), Stumptown next to Homestate in Altadena just opened up and I enjoy the vibe there. Honorable mentions include Cafe De Leche, Din Tai Fung, UOVO, and The Taco Spot in Eagle Rock. I always tell people when visiting Pasadena to check out Vroman’s Bookstore. It is an incredible two story independent bookstore in town. I go there like three times a month. I could go on and on about places. I love living on the Eastside.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly I wouldn’t be making the films I’m making or doing anything I’m doing creatively without the help and support of two people. Sean Cruser and Murphy Martin. Sean and I have made six shorts together and we are working on a feature soon. He has always been supportive of any script I send his way with a page or two of notes sent right back to me to help guide me in the right direction. He knows film. He knows filmmaking. Sean can do it all. A director, DP, editor, color grade, and sound editing. He is a wonderful filmmaker and a great friend and I couldn’t have done any of these shorts or had any of my sucess without him. Another person would be Murphy Martin. I’ve known Murphy since college, going on 17 years! We grew to become close friends over the years and Murphy is always game for anything Sean and I throw his way. A killer snowman? Sure. A deadbeat Ex boyfriend? You got it. Murphy is a master at acting and I love including him in everything I create. Always willing to take risks and always there to support no matter what. Sean and Murphy are a big reason why I do what I do and I’m forever grateful for them.
