We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaun Dennis Covington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaun Dennis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I truly had no other choice. As a creative you have to create. And i could not sit around at a regular 9-5 making other people money. Id rather go hungry making my creative ideas fly then do that. I have way to many talents to not explore them all and so that’s what I choose to do. Im I’m grateful for it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a multifaceted artist but I’ve learned to take on one project at a time to give it my full focus. Last year, 2020 I finished my first fictional novel called Arashi: Prince of the sky. It’s a coming of age urban fantasy story about a young man who is attacked by the manifestation of fear. He is then forced to look for the crystals needed to rid himself of the curse of fear. Writing this story was so very therapeutic for me and eye-opening. It wasn’t hard writing the story, it poured out of me like water when I really sat down and focused. I learned to shut the world out and be with myself and my thoughts long enough to have a deeper meaning and understanding of who I am and the story I want to tell. My reason for writing this book is to teach people that fear is an illusion of the mind. I love stories and creating different worlds and this book was my way of waking people up.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I love a good hike. The best ones are the ones that don’t seem to have an end. One of my favorites is Dr. Mario Decampos up in the North ridge area. Marina Del Rey is one of my favorite beach spots. Easy to find parking and not too many people there on the weekdays. Also the Hollywood reservoir where you can walk around the giant lake for a good hour walk. And lastly the wisdom tree trail right above the Hollywood resevoir. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh man, I have so much support from family and friends Id take up the entire page listing them. But a major book that has really put me in the mind frame of achieving growth in my career has been Napoleon Hills “Think and grow rich through persuasion”
