We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Chase Glass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that the experience I give my clients is the driving force behind my success. I treat all of my clients like friends (and they eventually become my friends!). I’m there for them from when we first talk all the way past their wedding days and I deliver rad photos! Whether it’s helping my brides pick out their bridesmaids dresses, giving vendor recommendations, or just texting to say what’s up, I love chatting with my brides any time of day (seriously my husband gets annoyed with me because I’m always on my phone chatting with my couples after “office hours”.). I help put out fires before + on the wedding days, I always have eyelash glue on me, and my services go way beyond being just a day of photographer. I am super laid back on wedding days which helps to reduce stress on my brides. I strive to give my clients a super fun experience while we are shooting. I use prompts instead of static stiff poses that elicit natural and fun reactions from my clients! I THRIVE on people who think they’re awkward in front of the camera. My goal is get photos that my clients feel like their best selves in!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a wedding photographer for couples with that goofy, can’t keep their hands off each other kind of love. Every wedding and session is unique for each of my couples. I strive to capture their real personalities in a natural + organic way. For weddings, I cater the photo timeline to exactly what the couple wants. They don’t want to miss one second of cocktail hour? Great, they’ll be there for the whole thing! They want to spend an hour doing portraits at sunset? Amazing, count me in! Whatever they want, the wedding day is about them, not about me or the photos. I am able to adapt to any situation (lighting or otherwise) and provide one heck of a fun experience. Something unique that sets me apart is that I am available to my clients 24/7. If they ever need to ask me a question or need to talk, they all have my phone number.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely go to the Beach! Venice Beach + Playa del Rey Beach are my favorites! I love sharing our hiking trails with my out of town friends! Los Liones and Solstice Canyon are two of my faves! When visiting LA, going out to great restaurants is a MUST! Sugarfish has the best sushi ever, South End has amazing pizza and wine, and Malibu Farm Cafe has healthy eats, amazing views of the ocean, and is perfect to go to after hiking Solstice!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am without the support of my late mentor Michael Brannigan. Michael had been in the industry for 30+ years. While working for him, I got to see the fun experience he gave all his clients while not conforming to any “trends”. He treated all vendors with respect and so many people looked up to him. He formed genuine relationships with all his clients and vendors.
