Meet Tyrel Watson | Disc Jockey & Photography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyrel Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyrel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After college, I was beginning to feel an emptiness about where my life was headed at the time. I felt like I was caught in a loop of working hard just to get by. So, with my previous education and friend group, it was easy for me to see that the only way to be an asset to my circle and live the life I want to live, I had to work for myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an open format dj that plays a variety of genres from Hip-Hop, R&B, and Afrobeat to Dance and House music. In short I create the vibes that make people have a great time. The thing that sets me apart is my ability to adapt to any crowd and my attention to detail. See there’s a difference between people who play music and dj’s. I put the work in from the ground floor making sure that I develop my ear and improving my skills, building brick by brick. In today’s landscape if you are a socialite and bought the equipment you are considered a dj, but being a dj is more than just having equipment and pressing some buttons, it’s an art form. Thats why when it comes to my brand I do things organically and build that way because everyone that comes across the brand will see the authenticity and stay attracted to that aspect. I want people to know that I’m a real authentic person all around as well as my brand and team. What we built individually and collectively was all from hard work, focus, and discipline. People can identify and admire that when it comes to our brand and feel like they are apart of it. You don’t need to be something your not in order to feel successful. Don’t be like them, be like you and have a Mynd Of Your Own!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Right off the bat I have to take my friend to a Lakers game, that would definitely set the tone. Then take them to to Venice beach during the day and sight see the tourist attractions. I would take them to Masteo’s downtown and definitely the many food trucks out here. At night go to some events in North Hollywood party with some creatives. Lastly I would definitely take them to a comedy show to cap off the whole trip.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to thank the Great Creator for all of his blessings and giving me this talent and opportunity. Shoutout my mom and family for always supporting me in everything that I do. I also want to thank my brother Theo and my brothers, Mynd Of My Own, for giving me more than a friend group, but for giving me another family away from home.
