We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyress Christine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TyRess, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Growing up in an abusive household, I found solace in watching MTV music videos and fashion shows, which not only provided an safe escape but also ignited my passion and talent for makeup artistry, hair styling, and fashion. I was born in Sacramento, but I moved to San Francisco at 22 after getting my cosmetology license and then getting excepted to the Art Institute. It’s there in SF that I truly found home, embracing the vibrant culture and opportunities the city offers.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Combining my expertise in hair and makeup with scriptwriting distinguishes me as a multifaceted creator, seamlessly blending visual artistry with storytelling. This unique skill set allows me to craft compelling narratives that resonate through both appearance and content, setting me apart in the creative industry. I am most excited about the possibility of working for Kim Kimble, again. If you don’t know look her up. When I first moved to LA during the zombie apocalypse of 2020 Kim Kimble was my first Hollywood check. Not bad! Although it has not been a easy ride I will continue to reached my professional milestones by tirelessly working hard, believing in myself, and leveraging valuable connections through networking, which have all fueled my growth and success. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is knowing that people may not want what you have but they just don’t want you to have it. Be very cautious of who you keep close to you because some people are waiting for your downfall. I want everyone to know that I am an extremely talented and a hardworking individual with limitless potential; soon, they will see my work showcased on both television and the big screen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone were visiting me, I would definitely treat them to dinner and a burlesque show at La Bohème in West Hollywood, or we could enjoy Cuban food at Versailles Cuban Restaurant in Culver City. Followed by an Afrobeat party or the Black on the Block festival for a vibrant experience. For the closing number a Sunday brunch Drag show at Hamburger Mary’s in WeHo of course.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The only person who truly deserves credit for my success is me, myself, and I. I’ve dedicated my time and effort to overcoming challenges and pursuing my dreams. Of course my dad and close friends that I consider family have cheered me a long the way. But it’s me who is continuously putting one foot in front of the other.
