We had the good fortune of connecting with Una Sekona and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Una, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a Parent, the most important thing I have done to impact my daughter was following my dreams and pursuing a career I love doing makeup. Being able to show her that no matter your circumstances, you can always at anytime in your life follow your dreams and change the narrative of your current situation. I hope that me changing my life around has impacted her in a way that if she needs to one day, she will not be afraid to take risk and follow her own dreams. When I first became a mother, I was young. I would hear people say your life is going to be over, or that it would be way more harder in life for me. That stuck with me for a long time and my only desire at the time was to be a good mother! As I grew, and got older I realized that my life wasn’t over! In fact it had just begun! All the things I dreamt of being, I could still be! Having my daughter motivated me! She was just what I needed in my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a makeup artist has truly been my passion my entire life. To get to where I’m at right now, i had to leave a promising job and really take a risk on myself. It was not easy, and I’m still learning and becoming a better artist everyday. When I first starting doing makeup, I only knew what I had been doing for years. Had very little knowledge on how to accurately apply makeup. Although I knew how to do it on myself it’s completely different doing it on other people. So the first thing I did was hop on YouTube to learn more! I had little money so that was how I learned some techniques. Then shortly after I signed up for a makeup class and got certified. After that I started advertising and trying to get anyone I could over to do there makeup. Since then I’ve created a makeup remover that is healthy and easily removes makeup. I have worked with hundreds of clients even celebrities. If I could give future makeup artist advice it would be to never give up, or be discouraged! Theres room for all of us!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my grandmother Icey and my father Larry. They have been my rock through it all! I love you Dad and Grandma
