Meet Uva Wang

We had the good fortune of connecting with Uva Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Uva, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art has always been a significant part of my life. I began exploring it as a child, and I quickly discovered how much I loved creating. Art became my way to relax and express myself, a passion that only grew stronger as I got older.
When I was a teenager, I developed a deep love for comics. I spent hours reading and collecting comic books, completely captivated by the art and stories within them. A pivotal moment for me was when my favorite comic artist followed me back on social media and took the time to encourage me. That interaction lit a spark in me—I realized that becoming a comic artist wasn’t just a dream, but something I genuinely wanted to pursue.
This passion led me to university, where I studied graphic design and visual communication. For my final project, I decided to combine my love for storytelling and art, creating a comic titled “Miss.W.Diary.” It was a project I poured my heart into, and I’ve continued developing it ever since. Now, I regularly share my work on Instagram and TikTok, connecting with an audience that appreciates my creativity.
Working as an artist is incredibly fulfilling. I love knowing that my comics can bring a smile to someone’s face, and through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and interact with so many amazing people. Art is not just a career for me—it’s a joy, a way of life, and something I truly enjoy doing every day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Miss.W.Diary is a comic brand that’s very close to my heart because it’s based on my own life. It’s a silly, yet relatable series that captures the funny stories and quirky thoughts that pop up in my everyday experiences. What sets it apart is its authenticity—it’s not just a collection of memes or trendy jokes; it’s a reflection of real life, with all its ups and downs, seen through a humorous lens.
Building this comic brand has been a solo journey, which comes with its own set of challenges. Without a team, I’m responsible for everything—from creating the comics and animations to building my website, managing an online shop, and even applying for spots at local markets to sell my work. There are days when it’s hard to come up with fresh ideas, especially since my life, like most people’s, isn’t filled with dramatic events every day. Sometimes, I find myself working late into the night, trying to crack a good idea, or struggling to balance my day job with my passion for comics.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. I’ve created over 560 comics so far, and that’s something I’m really proud of. I’m also excited about exploring more in the world of animation, which is a new challenge I’m eager to tackle.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is not to be lazy. When you slack off, it shows, and the impact is noticeable. It takes even more effort to recover from that, so it’s crucial to stay consistent and dedicated.
What I want the world to know about Miss.W.Diary is that it’s more than just a comic—it’s a story about a normal girl who, like everyone else, goes through tough times and has her moments of being mean or frustrated. But she always manages to find the humor in life, and that’s the message I hope to share: No matter what, there’s always something to smile about. So, keep finding the joy in your life, just like Miss W. does in hers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While Manchester might not be as bustling as some other cities, there’s definitely a lot to explore and enjoy, especially if you know where to look. If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d start by showing them around the Northern Quarter, which is right near where I live. It’s one of the most vibrant areas of the city, full of interesting street art, quirky shops, and cozy pubs. We’d spend a day wandering around, popping into art shops, and maybe ending the evening at a cool pub.
Since they’re into art, I’d also take them to a life drawing class I attend regularly, also in the Northern Quarter. It’s a relaxed environment where you can grab a drink—perhaps a nice tapas, beer or wine—during the break, making it a fun and creative experience.
For a bit of nature, we’d head to Heaton Park, which is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe. It’s a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy some greenery, with plenty of space to wander around and take in the scenery. Afterward, we’d visit a few of the city’s museums, like the Bury Art Museum and the Manchester Art Gallery, to soak up some culture.
After spending 2-3 days in Manchester, we’d venture out to explore more of the UK. I’d suggest taking a train to the Lake District, which is absolutely stunning and perfect for a peaceful retreat. We’d spend some time hiking in the Peak District as well, which offers breathtaking landscapes and great trails. A day trip to Liverpool would also be on the itinerary—it’s a city with a rich musical history and a lively atmosphere.
As for food, I’d make sure we had a meal at Rudy’s Pizza—there’s nothing like enjoying a fresh, sourdough pizza straight from the oven. For brunch, we’d head to Federal, a popular spot where the food is worth the wait in line. And if we’re feeling like indulging in a bit of everything, Cosmo is a great choice, offering a worldwide buffet where you can find just about anything you’re craving.
All in all, it would be a week filled with art, nature, and good food—a perfect blend of what makes this region special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my tutor from the University of Salford, Mark Scargill. Mark played a pivotal role in helping me start my creative career here in the UK. His support went far beyond just teaching—he was a mentor both in art and in life. Mark was always there to cheer me on, offering encouragement and valuable opportunities that allowed me to grow as an artist. He even helped promote my comic, which gave me the confidence to keep pursuing my passion. His belief in me truly made a difference, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything he’s done.
