Meet Valencia Hamilton | Certified Athletic Trainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Valencia Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valencia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The vision for alleViate Athletic Training Services was born from a deep-rooted passion for helping others and a desire to make a real difference in the community. As a certified athletic trainer, I’ve always been drawn to the idea of supporting people—not just athletes, but anyone seeking to live a healthier, more active life. Over the years, I witnessed firsthand how the healthcare system often falls short, especially for individuals who lack access to consistent, quality care. Family and friends experienced these gaps, and their struggles opened my eyes to the critical need for accessible, personalized wellness services.
I realized that many people—weekend warriors, daily walkers, desk-bound professionals—experience physical discomfort, instability, or chronic issues, yet they are often overlooked unless they’re elite athletes. This realization became the foundation of alleViate: a mobile wellness company dedicated to bringing high-quality, whole-body care to everyone, not just the few. Our mission is to help people move, feel, and live better by offering advanced recovery tools and tailored treatment plans that restore balance, reduce pain, and improve performance.
Another core reason behind starting this company was the unique opportunity to build it with my sister—someone who shares my professional background, passion for wellness, and commitment to community care. Together, our combined knowledge and shared vision make us stronger, allowing us to uplift and empower others through our expertise.
At alleViate, we believe in meeting people where they are—literally and figuratively. By staying mobile and accessible across Southern California, we eliminate barriers and bring wellness directly to our clients’ doors. Whether you’re an athlete, an office worker, or simply someone trying to take better care of your body, alleViate is here to support your journey toward stability, recovery, and optimal health.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At alleViate Athletic Training Services, our mission is simple yet powerful: to bring the same level of recovery and care that student-athletes receive to the everyday individual. We believe that everyone—regardless of age, lifestyle, or fitness level—deserves access to high-quality, non-invasive wellness services that promote healing, restore balance, and support an active, pain-free life.
We created alleViate as a mobile wellness company to meet people where they are—literally and in their wellness journey. Whether you’re sitting at a desk all day, chasing after kids, recovering from a tough workout, or simply navigating the physical demands of life, our personalized recovery treatments are designed to help you move better, feel better, and live more fully.
What sets us apart is who we are and why we do this work. As sisters, certified athletic trainers, and young Black women in a field where we are often underrepresented, we bring a unique and deeply personal perspective to wellness. Starting a business together has been one of the most meaningful parts of this journey. Our shared foundation, paired with the distinct experiences from our full-time careers, allows us to offer well-rounded, effective, and empathetic care.
We launched alleViate in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic—an incredibly uncertain time. With the world on pause, I had the time to fully invest in building the foundation of our business. I poured my energy into developing our mission, refining our services, and connecting with the community. But when the world began to reopen and I returned to my full-time job, the challenge of balancing both quickly set in. There were long days, back-to-back commitments, and moments of burnout. At one point, I had to take a step back from the business to focus on my main source of income and my own well-being.
Despite the difficulties, I never lost sight of our vision. I’ve learned that balance isn’t about doing everything at once—it’s about knowing when to pivot, when to push, and when to pause. Now, we operate alleViate primarily during the off-season of athletics, which has allowed us to maintain a healthy balance and continue serving clients with the energy and intention they deserve.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built—not just a business, but a platform for education, access, and empowerment. We’ve been fortunate to form key partnerships that took a chance on our vision early on, and their support helped launch us into the community. Those relationships, combined with our passion and purpose, laid the groundwork for our success.
What keeps me going is seeing the real-life impact of our work. Every time a client says they’re feeling better, moving easier, or finally able to enjoy their life without pain—it reinforces that we’re doing something that matters. We’re helping people take control of their health in ways they didn’t think were possible.
What I want the world to know about alleViate is that we are here to serve. We’re not just another wellness company—we’re two women who deeply care, who understand the body, and who are committed to helping people live better lives through movement, recovery, and education. This is bigger than us—it’s about helping others alleviate pain, restore balance, and keep moving forward.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Willda A. Jarrett, Certified Athletic Trainer and CEO of Tape Pros. Willda is more than just a leader in our profession—she’s a true trailblazer. As a Black woman in athletic training, she broke barriers and built a platform that gave voice and visibility to young professionals of color. Her mentorship has had a lasting impact on me personally. Watching her run her own company and lead with purpose and representation showed me that it was not only possible to dream big—but to build big, too. She laid the blueprint for me and so many others to follow, and because of her, I had the confidence to envision and pursue starting my own business.
