We had the good fortune of connecting with Jemia M. Warner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jemia M., do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote actually was told to me often by my mother, “you have bad moments, not bad days.” Many individuals have said this but coming from my mother it has always stayed with me. I love this quote because it is so easy to feel like the day is ruined because you missed an email or your coffee spilled, however it’s an event that went bad not the whole day. Over the years I have learned those events/moments that caused me stress didn’t outweigh the enjoyable parts of my day. Simply put: Life is too short to sweat the small stuff and time is precious.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being the Founder and CEO of Rose Legacy Institute, LLC is the scariest and most exciting journey of my entire career. I have worked with a variety of vulnerable populations, some made me cry and others made me laugh. No matter the population, the one constant reminder I received was “your purpose is to serve.” Serving others has been challenging because the day is only so long, the funds only stretch so far and the emotional toll can be overwhelming, however I wake up each day saying “I have a purpose to fill.”
I would love to say this journey was an easy one but it hasn’t been, it’s been a battle of fear, imposter syndrome and the desire to succeed. The best way to describe how I continue to overcome these challenges is FAITH. I have faith that my purpose is connected to the legacy I am a part of. My business is rooted in honoring Rosetta Simpson, my grandmother. She was a source of safety, comfort, wisdom and love when she walked the earth and now that she has ascended, I want to continue that legacy. Rose Legacy Institute is an agency of change, wisdom and courage and that is what sets us apart from other therapeutic practices.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nothing is better than when friends that turn into family come to visit. Our relationship is based on memories, laughs and food. We are exploring the town for great pasta dishes and the best desserts in the state. We have to catch a comedy show and don’t forget to cruise the mall. Last, but not least we are exploring the local coffee shops and bookstores.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am shouting out the inspiring women in my life. I come from a lineage of strong, brave and confident black-women. My story is still being written but it began with my grandmother Rosetta, her love and courage flows through all the women in my family. In addition to my blood relatives, I am inspired by my close friends they are intelligent, innovators, mothers, advocates, honest and hilarious.
