We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Huber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valerie, how do you think about risk?
As an actress risk is something that comes with my job. Nothing is ever safe. Ever. No job, no relationship, nothing in life. So why settle for something else than your dream in the first place? I think being in a creative career you have to have the type of personality that is acquainted to risks. You have to learn to live with it, or even learn to love it. In my job I will never know when my next project will be. A great film project or show or success is never a guarantee for the next job. It might help you to be seen by more people, but it doesn’t mean that you are going to get job offers for the rest of your life. But I must agree with the cliche; no risk – no fun.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started acting when I was a child, I always loved performing and being on stage. I had the great opportunity to star in a kids TV show at the age of 10. The experience inspired my whole path. I think what sets me apart from other actresses, is that I am a very hard worker. Nothing along the path came easy until now, I worked hard for every single bit of it. I am hardly ever pleased with my work, but that keeps me thriving. I think I can say that I am very professional and I take my job very seriously. For me acting for film is a real ‘job’, rather that an art form. But it definitely is the best job there is.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Vienna, the city with the highest life quality in the world. So everything you can do there is amazing. We have a gorgeous historic city center with old cosy cafes, parks, horse carriages. It’s magical, especially during winter time. I would take my friend to as many restaurants and cafes as possible, my favourite pizza place, Pizza Momo, Restaurants like Motto am Fluss and Cafes like Café Landsmann next to the biggest theatre the ‘Burgtheater’. Vienna is famous for its spectacular culture, the museums, the opera, the theatres, the palaces and so on. If you’ve never been, you’re missing out big time!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my parents, my best friends and my agents, who have believed in me from day one. This is for you, John, Steve and Angelika. The book ‘Untethered Soul’ has absolutely inspired me and I can recommend it to anyone. Other than that, everyone in my life who has shared their positivity, their love and inspiration with me.
