We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Seid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valerie, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Eighteen years ago I made a personal commitment to my own health and wellness, due to ongoing struggles with obesity and acute stress/anxiety. Subsequently, I am building two companies, Pardigm and Volofit, in the health and wellness space. I decided to channel my passion from those experiences to help others live better, healthier and happier lives.
Pardigm’s first product is to measure stress and the most overlooked reason behind it, Cortisol. However, stress is only 3% of what cortisol does: the impact on the brain and body is so pervasive that the World Health Organization (WHO) classified it as the epidemic of the 21st century. While battling through my health issues, not a single doctor ever discussed the effects of Cortisol. I am trying to change that.
Likewise, Volofit is a new and very unique HIIT fitness concept. Fitness has played a major role in my weight loss and mental health journeys. It quite literally saved my life.
Many can create a great product but being able to talk authentically about it is a differentiator in business. It’s rare to truly understand the struggles of your clients and the value of the solutions being provided.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Pardigm is a company that is putting a diagnostic lab in your pocket. You will not need to go to your doctor’s office or a laboratory anymore for your battery of tests. It is as simple to use as a home covid or pregnancy test. You collect saliva, take a picture of a rapid test with your mobile phone and in two seconds you will have a laboratory quality result. This is a major breakthrough in computer vision technology.
As mentioned earlier, we are beginning with the Master Hormone, Cortisol, because imbalances result in thousands of health conditions (that can be reversed) and imbalances affect approximately 70% of adults. Today, all of our bodies are stressed by so many things, real or perceived, for prolonged periods of time. The toll it takes on us is enormous.
I recommend reading our newly published book, “Cortisol: The Master Hormone” on Amazon. It is the latest scientific research. I promise it will blow your mind! For example, did you know that:
– It is physiologically impossible to lose weight long term when cortisol is out of balance
– Cortisol is the #1 cause of early death in cardiovascular disease ahead of obesity and smoking
– Low cortisol levels drive anxiety and burnout in people dealing with high-stress situations
– Just a 20% higher cortisol levels in the morning halt ovulation–potentially explaining 50%-70% of infertility cases and worsening menopause symptoms
Wait, why isn’t this front-page New York Times news? Most want or need to lose weight and women are screaming for a solution to ease their menopause symptoms. My goal is to make sure the world learns about this because it is not too good to be true. It is not a gimmick. It is just proven science.
If I sound excited, it’s because I am. My friends and family see it every time I talk. I wake up every day thankful to be part of this team because it is the most consequential thing I have ever worked on. Cortisol is just the beginning. Beyond that, we aim to be the go-to testing and management platform for hundreds of biomarkers – neurodegenerative, cancer, cardiovascular, psychiatric, and more. This technology offers the world easier access to care, a low-cost testing option, and most importantly, we are tackling some of the biggest health issues today – stress, obesity, and mental health.
Yes, I know…when talking about diagnostics many immediately think about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. So for credibility purposes, we asked her whistleblowers to test our product. After months of due diligence, Stanford Professor Phyllis Gardner and Tyler Schultz joined our Scientific Advisory Board. Their backing gives you a sense of how strongly the medical and biotech industry views the intellectual property of what we have built.
It is not all fun and games. Pardigm is an early-stage startup, which means we need funding to get to market. I spend 80% of my time fundraising and learned quickly that the environment today is difficult for companies like ours, as venture capitalists have significantly scaled back their investment pace. I will be quite happy when I can focus more on building the business than funding it, but I am determined. We will get there because this is a massive breakthrough, and the right angel investors and VCs are out there waiting for this kind of opportunity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Eaton Canyon Falls has a nice waterfall hike and Angeles National Forest has a few cute swimming holes. I always send people to the Mosaic Tile House in Venice, the Museum of Neon Art, Sunken City and the usual places like Santa Monica, Getty, Universal Studio, Griffith Observatory.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to Carie King, the most talented life coach and someone who has truly elevated how I process information, people and daily experiences. Carie’s unique approach has helped me heal and grow. We are all a work in progress, but because of her, and the hard work I’ve done, I can look in the mirror and be proud of what I see.
And there’s my beautiful mom. A long time ago, in a bad moment, she said, “How are you really? Do I need to get on an airplane?” It stuck with me because that’s the very definition of love, support, and consistent presence in the face of anything.
