We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Toliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valerie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My first thought process I honestly was really scary I feared starting my business and I know a lot of people go through this fear of failure when you have a lot of people around you to say negative things like if I didn’t make it you’re not gonna make it why are you doing this you can’t do that so those seeds planted in me in my heart I wanted to start a business but I have so much negativity in me. So what I started doing is that I had to start being around positive people people that own businesses people that were successful which started shifting and transforming my mind once my mind started transforming I began to take the steps to pursue my business. Even though it was scary which is OK but people have to realize you have to move through the scariness, there was many ups and downs wanting to give up but I kept pressing through until I reach my goal I realize that I had great people around me who push me and help me even when I did not have all the finances God supplied by needs and he still is. I am so grateful to God that I’m still in business in this pandemic
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well my business is called trans4mation Institute i’ve been cutting hair for over 32 years I started cutting hair when I was in high school went got my license cut in a shot for a good 10 years and then I decided to branch out and and start my own business the first business I owned I was 28 years old the owner of the shop that I was working and decided she was going to close the shop so that was opportunity for me to take on the business it was already established so all I have to do is put my name on it. What sets me apart from other people I have a heart to listen I treat my customers as though they are they aren’t only thing that matters when they sit in my seat yes I love cutting hair but when they sit in my seat I don’t want them leaving the same way they came in I designed the heart of people and whatever I can do to help them shipped your mindset I can cut her hair and it looks good from the outside but what about their heart what about planning a seed that can ship the way they think and I love to service people that’s what makes different, it makes me happy when I can see the face of someone when they walk in and they might be sad they might be going through something, but when they get up out of my chair they are happy I see their demeanor change that’s what excites me. How do I get to where I am today it’s a lot of prayer being around a lot of positive people that can push me and expand my thinking but I can honestly say Jesus is the reason where I’m at today with my business yes there are some down moments yes there are times when I think I’m not gonna make it yes sometimes I feel like walking away from it but God always remind me about people I’m put on this earth to help, to uplift, to push them into their purpose, you have to realize 90% of my clientele talk to me about personal things first of all it’s my duty to keep what they are telling me they tell me because they trust me it’s more to it than just cutting hair it’s about changing people life. I am about transforming people lives from the youngest to the oldest yes I can have the most successful business in the world making all the money it’s not going to mean anything to anyone if my mind in my heart is not transform because I service people if that makes sense to you. I try to bring a balance in my life
