We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Villegas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, what do you attribute your success to?
I started my fine art advisory over three years ago with little more than a handful of contacts and my 10 years of experience running a gallery. I would be lying if I could tell you that my journey up to this point has been easy. The truth is starting out on your own is hard. Building a successful brand takes time and planning. For me the most important piece of the puzzle has been building and maintaining strong relationships with my clients. Conducting my business with integrity has fostered good connection with all my contacts. That has translated to a network of repeat clients who trust me to guide them through the daunting process of buying fine art, building investment grade collections, and eventually selling when the time is right. Going the extra mile for each of my collectors is not only good for business, but it is rewarding to see the joy when my clients are beyond satisfied with their acquisitions.
What should our readers know about your business?
Vanessa Villegas Art Advisory is boutique fine art advisory and brokerage. Our all-inclusive approach focuses on the three phases of investment-grade art collecting: building, maintaining, and eventually the de-acquisition process. Servicing both novice and well seasoned collectors, our intent is to help collectors acquire fine art of exceptional caliber, condition, and relevance. Guiding collectors through the entire process of collectorship, we offer additional services to assist with the management of a collection. When the collector or estate is ready to sell their art assets, we utilize our vast network to find the right buyer and get the most out of the investment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is so vast with so many wonderful places to eat, drink and engage with culture. We are truly spoiled to have so many “downtowns” scattered across this city. That said one of my favorite stay-cations I’ve ever had was a weekend in DTLA, which is filled with art, music, and fine eats. Day 1 – Broad Museum Lunch @ Grand Central Market Moca Walk through Grand Park Dinner @ 71 Above Concert @ Disney Hall Hotel Stay @ Omni Hotel Day 2 – The Last Bookstore Walk & Shop Little Tokyo Market Place Lunch@ any little ramen or sushi spot Walk LA Arts District & LA Brewery Beer Tasting @ Angel City Brewing Dinner & Drinks @ Wurstkuche
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story would not be a success without the support of two very important people in my life. First, my husband who has believed in me and worked even harder to help make this dream a reality. Second is my mentor Julian who has been an amazing business coach, guide, and friend.
