We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanity Halston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanity, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Being in the entertainment industry, we are always juggling ideas to set us apart from the other shows or entertainers. Being that I produce shows and productions in what is sometimes a tourists destination, I have to come up with fresh ideas that people might want to see. Every show is a risk, you never know what an audience wants to see or hear. Taking risks to bring in different themes and ideas has allowed me to put on shows that I wouldn’t normally do in fear no one would want to see them, only to have them be a successful hit. If I would never have taking the risk to produce it in the first place, I wouldn’t have ever known that. Then again I have taken risks to produce things that flopped. Everything is a learning experience and without risks we don’t know what hits and what sinks.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a female illusionist/impersonator for over 27 years. I tried to separate myself from other Drag entertainers by not being cookie cutter about my stage presence. When you see me on stage or come to experience, one of the shows, you will not only get stand-up comedy, but you will also get heartfelt routines, elaborate costumes, high energy, dance, routines, celebrity illusions, etc.. I got to where I am today because I know that without my audience, I don’t have a show so I make sure that every night my audience feels appreciated and leaves with smiles on their faces. I make sure to interact with my audience at all times so that they feel that they are a part of the show just as much as I am.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many wonderful things to do in Palm Springs. There’s no way that we could miss out on Thursday market nights on Palm Canyon, or visiting all the wonderful galleries from the local artists.
Some of my favorite places to eat around town are Desert Thai, Sammy G’s, Boozehounds, la Tablita, & Tony’s.
If my friends liked nature, taking a trip up the tram or going to Joshua Tree to rent a cabin.
There’s alway amazing shows or cabarets going on, so seeing a show would definitely be on the list.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have three major shoutouts that have contributed to my success.
First, would be the owners of the One Eleven Bar where I currently produce shows. These owners have allowed me to bring in different ideas, different show people, and take risks without any obstacles. They show 100% support not only for me for every person that graces is the stage.
Second, would be the amazing and talented entertainers that have graced my stage. Without their dedication to their talent and their dedication to the stage, I don’t believe the shows would be as successful without them.
Third, would have to be the incredible audiences that come and support me and my cast every single week. The audiences that come back and bring their friends or share their stories, are the reason I’m able to be as successful as I am. The audiences show love and support to every cast member that’s on that stage.
