We had the good fortune of connecting with VeArtis Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi VeArtis, what makes you happy? Why?
As a person who is always busy whether it’s work, school, social etc, what I have learned that makes me happy is optimal rest! The older I’ve gotten, the more I am in tune with myself; if my mind and body says rest, then that is exactly what I will do. I used to be an avid workaholic until by body completely shutdown (which is not fun). I’ve learned that rest is not only great for my body, but for creativity as well! I absolutely draw a blank when I am tired or when my mind is boggled with tons of things.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a mix of clean and chic with a twist of what I like to call “finding your own lane”, no matter what that may look like to someone. I am very excited of the growth from when I started 5 years ago to where I am now. I am a forever student and I always look for ways to learn more where I can make a creative pivot. I can’t lie; it wasn’t easy, juggling work, a business, family, social etc. I had to find a way to figure out what was more important to me and focus on that. Unfortunately, I’ve lost people along the way in my journey, but that’s okay! I learned that everyone is not meant to come with you and somehow you must push forward. I want the world to know that you can do whatever you put your mind to and to watch out for Double AA Vision because I am a big believer on giving a great experience and treating people as people!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in Chicago would be in Logan Square or the outskirts of Downtown Chicago. Downtown is honestly a tourist attraction and if you’ve lived here you’ve seen enough of downtown! The jewel is in the outskirts where you can find a mom and pop restaurant or a live bar without the really large crowds! In the summer, renting a yacht on Lake Michigan with a group of friends is AMAZING especially at sunset!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shout to everyone who has played a part in supporting me thus far! My support circle, my amazing clients and of course my two daughters April and Amiya which is who I named my business after. I truly appreciate everyone who has genuine love and support for Double AA Vision Photography no matter if they were a direct client, sent my name for referrals etc, I am more than grateful!
