We had the good fortune of connecting with Vian Borchert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vian, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Throughout my art career, my approach has been to do this thing called life as candidly and as authentically as possible. I had followed my bliss and the blessings that I was bestowed with since birth which is my art talent. I went with what I had and I gave it my all. I kept on doing, creating art, writing on art and growing as an artist and as an individual in my own business. Little did I know that by following my heart and bliss and staying true to my character that this will become a huge inspiration not only to the people around me such as my art students, but to my community and the world all together. Through the decades of creating art and writing on art, I have seen that what I say creates a ripple effect not only in the art world but also to the world beyond. I have written about my philosophies on art and my love for nature and the environment for years, and it seems the world listens and pays attention to every word I share with them. In this, I see us as a small village, a global one where we are all interconnected through our humanity. My message of love and emphasis on the importance of the role of art in our lives has been proven effective through my artwork and my writings resulting in making a difference and changing our world to a better one. After all, it is the visionaries and philosophers who make an imprint in uplifting and creating enlightenment within societies. Thus, my singular vision has had a huge impact on mindsets which consequently creates change and opens up one’s perspectives to the endless possibilities that the world has for us. I had written a lot on capturing the essence of matters – In a gist, life is all about capturing the essence of who we are and how also one’s creative endeavors can connect us collectively through this thing we call life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a reflection of who I am, my thoughts, my creative soul, my subconscious, my aspirations, dreams and voyages all combined in a visual tapestry I call visual poetry. My artwork is delivered to the viewer through my abstracted vision and minimal expressionist aesthetics delivering my love for nature and the environment through abstracted landscapes, seascapes and skyscapes that are an embodiment of my emotional elements. I am a painter. Thus, the paintings are conducted in the acrylic on canvas medium with textured brush strokes and strong colors of mainly blues. I love the color blue since I am a sea / water person. And, being by the sea and looking up at the blue sky with its fluffy clouds generates feelings of calm and peace within me. What sets me apart from others is that I am a pioneer of sorts, always thinking of innovative ways of bringing my unique vision to the public while welcoming the viewers to partake in this visual journey and taking in the intellectualism that the art emits and brings forth. I am most proud of seeing the fruits of my labor. Creating art for decades, studying fine art and being a graduate and “Notable Alumni” form the Corcoran George Washington University along studies in art therapy, positive psychology, sociology and art history had shaped my philosophies and approaches to my art practices. I am happy to have seen my artwork on a large display in the midst of Times Square on Broadway in NYC this past June, and seeing my artwork in world-class museums within the US and abroad, along exhibiting in major cities like LA, NYC in key galleries, and being interviewed by esteemed publication both national within the US and internationally. I am proud of all my achievements that I had worked very hard on and eventually saw my dreams come to fruition. Of course, getting to this point in my career where my paintings are collected and sold in leading world markets and auctions was no easy task. Lots of sleepless nights and building up a body of work in this long career had to occur for the growth to happen within my business and within myself for my creative identity to blossom and bloom to its colorful state of being. I overcame many challenges through digging deep into my soul and searching for means of ways to find inner peace and solace amid difficult times and situations. Meditation has been a great source of calm in centering and anchoring me to find some quiet time and contentment amid the outside daily noise and bombardment of life. I learned so many lessons, I feel I can easily write a book just about the lessons learned from life’s challenges. It seems once you seem to get things figured out, life mischievously throws you another new debacle to untangle. Hence, thankfully I am a creative person and creativity also has to be implemented in solving life’s troubling issues and puzzling matters as well. The lessons I learned along the way is that if you are met by difficulty, don’t worry and allow for the universe to unfold itself in its offerings. I also learned that love and kindness reign supreme, meaning that it is love and through love alone does our world keep going round and round. Be good to your fellow human beings. Collectively we can all work together to make this world a better place for you and me. I feel strongly that I was put onto this earth with a specific talent and vision to help bring light and wisdom through my art and philosophies to uplift my fellow brethren within this earth. **My artwork is available via these world leading marketplaces with auctions at these links:

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So many, LA is a gem. Almost everywhere you look you’ll find a slice of paradise. I am a big lover of the big blue. So, being by the ocean is always a breeze. Hence, a walk on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica is a must. Eating in one of the many restaurants is also a treat. Restaurants such as “Blue Plate Taco” to enjoy the Pacific views and the golden hour transforming into a sunset dance offer memorable moments. Also, I love “Red O” for expectational hospitality and a fun experience. The waitstaff at “Red O” are so welcoming and friendly – such great service really makes the whole going out experience much more enjoyable. I also love Malibu for its gorgeous landscapes by the ocean. For digging your feet in the sand while taking in the beautiful views of Malibu along being in the company of cute seagulls then “Paradise Cove” is a great escape for tropical drinks in an airy restaurant. If you have a sweet tooth, then you have to indulge in their “Mile High Chocolate Cake” with ice cream – can’t be beat!
Hands down, my favorite park/garden to be at where I feel like I am in Tuscany is The Greystone Mansion & Gardens in Beverly Hills. The historic mansion is a Tudor Revival on a landscaped estate with distinctive English gardens. The views from the high up mansion’s overlook are spectacular and cover many grounds of LA’s cityscape and skyscape. Of course, as an artist, I highly recommend the Getty Center. Thus, a visit to the Getty Center through its tram up to the museum is a must. My favorite part of the museum is its gardens and terraces overlooking the most splendid views of the canyons below. The cactus garden portion of the museum outdoor grounds is my favorite. The cactus trees become almost like modern sculptures in their greenery and unique shapes towering over the overlooks that offer panoramic views of Los Angeles. I also find the labyrinth maze garden with its blooming flowers from azalea and bougainvillea’s circular walkway within the center of the museum’s grounds to be utterly romantic. Super spot for a date if you ask me. 😉 Occasionally, they have local jazz bands playing outside as well which adds a lot of whimsy to the atmosphere. A drive through the Hollywood hills towards the iconic “Hollywood” sign is an experience by itself. Just the drive alone on Mulholland Drive and its curvy turns is an experience in taking in the scenic views. For a consumption of high fashion then Rodeo Drive is exceptional in its high-end stores such as the new Chanel flagship four-story minimal building that was designed by architect Peter Marino making it the largest Chanel boutique in the US, offering the best of what Chanel is all about from perfume, jewelry and of course tweed jackets and skirts. If you are into books and collecting limited edition hardcovers then TASCHEN limited books with hand signed and numbered limited editions is also located in Beverly Hills and a must see for the avid book collectors and readers.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, it is true the people around us do shape the way we think and how we view ourselves impacting our outlook and views. I have met all sorts of people throughout growing up from my childhood and into my adulthood, good people and not so good people. People who saw my talent at a very young age encouraged me to pursue an art career, while others tried to make me fall into pitfalls and be sidetracked by quarrels. Life after all is an experience, and one doesn’t only learn great lessons, but some lessons, although hard and challenging, can make or break one. In general though on a more positive side, my husband and children have been a great source of encouragement to me throughout my art career and through the ups and downs and detours I faced within my life’s journey. They have been encouraging of my vision and supportive through their love and understating of my artistic character and soul. I love that my husband sees my artwork and life’s work as a legacy. Moreover, I had managed throughout my life to resort to books and poetry to make me feel good especially in times where I needed uplifting. As of late, I came to love the book titled “The Journey / Big Panda and Tiny Dragon” by James Norbury. This book resonated with me since I relate to the angst of Tiny Dragon in navigating life’s challenges. The book’s message is that at the end, it’s really about the company you keep along with harvesting that inner peace and happiness one manages to achieve throughout one’s journey. Also recently a dear aunt of mine shared a poem with me to cheer me up from a bewildering issue. The poem is titled “Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann. The poem speaks about treating others with kindness along with accepting who we are and being gentle with ourselves while developing trust in the way things unfold.
