We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Rose Hasson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria Rose, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to get certified as a voice coach (through Brett Manning), I originally wasn’t interested in teaching! I thought going through the certification process would really help my own voice, and it has, but I ended up absolutely loving teaching. It’s a great “side hustle” to fund my artistry but it’s also incredibly rewarding and beautiful to help other singers get to know their own voices more and find their own, unique sound.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a certified vocal coach teaching in Los Angeles. I offer in-person as well as virtual lessons. When I initially went through the certification process through Brett Manning in Nashville, it was extremely intensive (and expensive). I definitely put a lot of faith in his methodology and myself to invest the way I did in becoming a coach myself. Once I moved to LA and began teaching on my own, I had no name and would definitely say I started from the bottom. It took so much mental and emotional endurance to hustle, show up and build my student clientele. Despite discouragement, barely getting by financially and doing everything on my own, I can now celebrate the fact that I have never taught anyone just one time (they all come back!) and 99% of my students have been word of mouth. I am extremely thankful to my beautiful community that continues to grow and spread the word about my teaching methods here in Los Angeles. I would not be where I am now without them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t been in LA long but thanks to the wonderful people I’ve met so far, I’ve been able to explore quite a bit! My favorite hole in the wall would definitely be Prince of Whales in Playa Del Ray. I love the laid back, beach town vibe that is that whole area and the locals are incredibly welcoming. If you’re looking for a great breakfast, Friends and Family in East Hollywood is incredible and the staff is so warm and kind (say hi to George for me).
I’ve also been fortunate enough to have started hosting my own show once a month in downtown LA at the Stowaway lounge the first Tuesday of every month. It’s an incredible, intimate night of music and storytelling and it’s free! Check out the next one on October 1st at 8pm (parking meters downtown are free after 8pm on Tuesdays) at 416 S Spring Street.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people! My mantra in life is “People are Everything” and I truly believe that. The entire point of being a creative is to connect with others. I say this often but at the end of our lives, we’re not going to remember anything we wrote or worked on but I guarantee we will remember all of the people who walked through life with us. So, we should work with people we love and take really good care of them. I owe my success as a writer, performer and vocal coach to countless members of my community who have shown up for me as examples, inspiration and supporters alike.
