We had the good fortune of connecting with Vincent Cilento and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vincent, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since my first summer of work stocking shelves at Target, I knew I wasn’t cut out for a 9-5 job. I remember being 16, sitting in the breakroom eating lunch in the middle of another obnoxiously boring day, turning to a coworker and saying “I’m not sure if I can do this whole 8 hour shift thing.” Everyone looked at me like I was nuts, and even though I didn’t know what I would be doing in the future, I had a pretty good idea that it wasn’t going to be working for someone else.

Mantra Medallions is the first of many business adventures I have started, or plan to start in the future. I also have a blog, podcast, recipe book and nutrition consulting business centered around the prevention of kidney stones, and I am in the beginning stages of starting a foot-shaped shoe company that will be a significant improvement on the few, but increasing amount of others that are currently on the market.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The thing that excites me most about Mantra Medallions is the small part we get to play in helping people to find more love, joy and peace in their lives There is nothing quite like helping to put a smile on the face of a stranger, and the fact that that smile can be so contagious and spread to the people around them makes it even better!

Although we are pretty new still, it was not easy to get to the point that we are at today. Finding a reliable supplier to make a quality product took about 6 months, and we lost a few big clients as a result of some mishaps on the part of a unpredictable production partner. Neither of us had any experience with social media or marketing when we started, so getting the word out has also been a bit tricky. We have recently begun starting to pick up some momentum, and we are extremely grateful for every bit of it.

One of the important things we have learned is to be consistent, and not get too hung up on things not working in the moment or as soon as you’d like them to. Success takes time, and the more time you can spend doing the work instead of getting down on yourself, the better off you will be.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My fiance deserves all the credit for the success of Mantra Medallions. She is the inspiration behind the entire project, and the reason I continue to work on it daily. She has been through some tough times, but has powered through each and every obstacle on her journey, and has found joy in helping others and lifting them up as well along the way. It is a story that has been a pleasure to be a part of, and one that continues to inspire me every day.
