We had the good fortune of connecting with Vinny Margott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vinny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When we decided to start our own business, we knew we wanted to partner with a reputable company to help us achieve our goal. Our vision was to open a boutique craft food franchise that would not only be established in other areas but also be new to our local community. We wanted to build a brand that would be recognized and trusted by the people in our community.
One of our main priorities was to provide the best possible product that we could genuinely stand behind. We wanted our customers to know that they were getting the highest quality of products and services. For us, this was not just a short-term goal, but a long-term generational goal for me and my family.
We believe that by opening a franchise with an established brand, we would have the opportunity to tap into an existing customer base while also benefiting from the franchisor’s proven business model and support system. By doing so, we could focus our efforts on building a successful business in our local community while also ensuring the longevity of the franchise.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Im most excited to partner with Tony Gemignani, Tony is a world renowned chef and pizza expert with over 20 years of culinary experience. He owns several award-winning restaurants, including Tonys Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco and Pizza Rock in Las Vegas, and we are thrilled to partner with him to bring his unique brand of pizzas to Southern California for the first time.
Tony is a 13-time world pizza champion, holds a Guinness World Record, and won the championship in Naples, Italy, making him the only American to do so. He has authored multiple cookbooks and is highly respected in the culinary world for his dedication to quality ingredients and traditional techniques. He also recently completed a Masterclass episode for their G.O.A.T course.
Bringing Tony award winning pizzas to Southern CA for the first time is a huge moment for the pizza community here, and we are so honored by it. We will also carry a fantastic Gluten Free and vegan option as well, we want to be a plant forward company. We will emphasize local craft beer in our line up, as everything we do is craft. Our company tag line is “Respect the craft” which is so important, and our community will see that in our stores.
Leading us to this point, our family has extensive experience running businesses in the window covering and replacement window industries retail levels.
All of our products in the other business we own are custom made and we are working on construction in customers homes, so know the value of running excellent customer service, friendless and being a small family business in a community and the pride that can bring. We’ve had tough roads being a family business as anyone, with COVID-19 challenges, 2008 market crashes, but we’ve survived it all, which has gotten us to this place today.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our store is located in Thousand Oaks, which is an amazing city that serves as a gateway to Los Angeles, Malibu, and Santa Barbara. As such, visitors to our city can plan an itinerary of endless possibilities.
For those who want to explore the beauty of our community, I highly recommend checking out Wildwood Park, which is one of the best hiking spots around. Thousand Oaks also has some fantastic dining options, including Kanda Sushi, Mediterraneo, Stonehaus, and more. If you’re in the mood for some of the best BBQ in America, head over to Zef BBQ in Simi Valley, just over the hill. And we are lucky to have Ali Baba’s Simi Valley, which has the best mediterranean food around.
For a night out, there are plenty of fantastic options for drinks in the area. Some of my personal favorites include Wades Wines, Oak n Iron, 14 Cannons, Energren, Tarantula Hill, and Institution. The growing craft and brewery scene in the area means that there are always new and exciting options popping up.
As someone who grew up playing sports, I can attest to the fact that Thousand Oaks has a great community for athletics. There are plenty of new pickleball courts popping up, an ice rink, and several skate parks like Borchard Skate Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am grateful to be where I am today, and I recognize that it wouldn’t have been possible without the blessings I’ve received from God. Through the peaks and valleys of my life, I have always felt His presence, and believe he has guided our family towards this new venture.
My wife Dana has been my biggest support system in this new venture. She has encouraged me every step of the way, even through long hours and trips. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive partner.
In addition to my wife, my father Mychael has been a significant mentor in my life. He has developed me from the ground up in the business world, and I couldn’t be where I am today without him. He is also leading this new venture with me and is the President of our new company.
My mother Cynde has also been a vital source of support for me. As a part owner of this business, she has been an integral part of this venture. She is not only one of the kindest people I know, but she is also one of the hardest workers, always leading from the front.
I also want to express my gratitude to Tony Gemignani, Bill Ginsburg, and George Karpaty. They took a chance on us when we had no prior restaurant experience, and they have been fantastic partners in guiding me through this new venture.
