We had the good fortune of connecting with Virgilia Barrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Virgilia, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
The most important thing I have done as a parent is to let my kids know that they matter so much to me, there for I chose a career that could allow me to schedule my own time so I can do what I love, which is bring wellness and kindness to those around me and still make time to be physical and emotionally present for them.

What should our readers know about your business?
My yoga classes are very unique, my warmth, my accent, and my students feel seen and care for. I’m most proud of how much effort and time I took to learn to prepare yoga sequences, because is not about just throwing poses here and there. With time I got to be more intuitive and everything came more organic. When you are in this business you come to an understanding that is your uniqueness that makes you thrive, you can’t compare yourself to your mentors or other teachers, the world is craving for something different, the world is craving for YOU!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love taking a ride on the Pacific Coast High way, going to the beach and stopping for burgers at Malibu Mutts Grill. Also if you are a hiking gal, Kenneth Hahn Park on La Cienega has a beautiful lake with the option to walk on flat land or hiking trail that will get you sweaty, and afterwards going for Sushi at Sushi Koo on la Cienega and 3rd it’s a perfect combination. For a good workout I recommend Baldwin Hills Stairs, at the top of the stairs your reward is that magnificent view of Los Angeles. And for an evening with an awesome view of Downtown LA and delicious cocktails 71 above is one of the best places,(this one is temporarily closed for Covid restrictions)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh yes, that’s so important! My teachers Anne Van Valkenburg, Jeanne Heileman and Joan Hyman. They are my inspiration, often there, responsive and available to help. Also my husband José Barrera for giving me the encouragement to keep going. And the wonderful circle of females that includes my friends and 4 sisters that are mothers and independent working women! Fascinating!
