Meet Vivienne Vida | Drag Queen, Performer, & Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vivienne Vida and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vivienne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Doing drag is something that I naturally fell into it. Ever since I was a little kid, I was always interested in creative things like crafts, drawing, and even playing with my sisters’ Barbies while nobody was looking! Eventually I started playing with makeup and a good friend of mine noticed that I had an undiscovered talent and thankfully introduced me to someone who was starting a new “Drag Show.” I immediately got to work and created some outfits from scratch and got myself ready to perform. That’s when I fell in love with Drag and decided to pursue my creativity and develop my Drag persona to the best of my abilities. 11 years later, I’m still performing and have put in tremendous work and passion to create the professional diva I am today, but more importantly learned how to create a career for myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since day one, I’ve taught myself how to do every single thing that is needed to elevate my craft from hair, nails, makeup, sewing, hip-pads, you name it. I knew that in order to be taken seriously, I had to present my absolute best which also pushed me to continue improving my skills over the years. In the beginning, it was difficult to prove myself to my peers, and show them that I had what it took to become a professional drag queen, but eventually I learned that all of the work I do is for myself, and the only approval I needed was my own. I take a lot of pride every time I step out in a new look that I’ve created from head-to-toe. When I hit the stage, it’s my moment to present all of my hard work to everyone in the audience, and I’ve been lucky enough to develop an amazing following that always recognizes me for my talent and my passion for what I do. I always perform from the heart, because Vivienne is a love story that captivates you more and more with every page.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my friends were to visit, I’d create my vision of a perfect day/week. We would start off at my favorite local bagel shop for some Vietnamese coffee and my favorite meal of the day, BREAKFAST! I love relaxing in more quiet/calm environments, so we would definitely visit some antique shops and thrift stores to see what fabulous items we can find. I love getting lost in a 2nd hand store looking for things I can use in my drag, home decor, vinyl records, or another porcelain cat figurine to add to my collection. After realizing we’ve been to about 200 shops, we would grab some lunch somewhere cute. My current favorites are either Green Olive for some fresh Mediterranean food or some delicious hand-made tacos from SonoraTown. Next, we can walk down the beach to enjoy some sun and recover from lunch until it’s time for dinner, where we would share a Tic-Tac. The perfect ending to our day would be visiting one of my favorite venues to watch and support a local Drag show and to enjoy the company of friends and my community.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to everyone who has believed in me and in the force behind my drag since day one. There’s many people who have seen the growth and resilience drag has brought into my life. Their support has meant the world to me and pushes me to continue doing what I love.
