We had the good fortune of connecting with Vladimir Kusijanović and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vladimir, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was a kid I was always highly into music and always felt a strong connection with it, while I was growing up I started making it and it was kind of like always clear to me that this was the path to follow. My mom has always been really creative even tho she doesn’t practice any type of artistic activity and both of my aunts are highly creative professionals. This was also a really important part for me to believe it was possible to pursue this type of career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I don’t believe I have one specific thing that sets me apart of other people but instead a combination of different abilities and skills that combined make me unique. Some of those would be being a multi-instrumentalist, The wide range of different music styles that I have worked on and overall my emotional sensibility to the music, combined with a huge respect for it.
I got to where I am today by constantly working and moving forward with my love for what I do being my main drive and fuel. It was not easy at all and its not easy now either, but then again my love for it has always pushed me forward anytime it has gotten hard. There is nothing else I would do and nothing that could stop me from doing it.
There are also many lessons. I feel being open to anything is a big one, don’t get close into your own beliefs about what things should be.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Would go to the Hollywood Reservoir for a walk, El Prado in Echo Park for drinks. Definitely would do a taco truck tour around the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people to list here that it would be impossible to name all of them. But I’m gonna name a few: my family of El General Villamil, my band. The Umbrela Collective, Tomas Crow, my parents, my aunts, my sisters, my grandma, my cousin Enrique, Taylor Wilzbach, Tor Hermansen, Mikkel Eriksen and there are a bunch of other people that it would take me hours to write all their names down
