We had the good fortune of connecting with Wake Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wake, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
That you have to be aware of trends and hype but still find your own voice and audience. Because our industry overall has become more entry-level and user-friendly, brands tend to launch without defining their own style and have trouble maintaining an audience after the hype has died down. If you focus on giving your brand its own personality that stands apart from what is in the marketplace, you’ll stand a better chance of longevity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Soul Ova Gold is an American-owned brand that was founded and established in Germany. We’re really proud of how the brand has attracted and connected people from so many different cultures and walks of life that have an appreciation for streetwear and art. We are super excited about our upcoming rebranding this year! Our new philosophy and design approach will be something we hope really captures the attention of the viewer!

Simply not giving up and continuing to push forward has allowed us to grow as a brand. It’s never been easy but it’s always been worth it. Whether it’s an artist being unavailable for projects, equipment malfunctions, or military obligations there’s always a circumstance to navigate through or around but determination and positivity lights a path to accomplishing our goals.

I’ve learned a lot of patience, focus and how to inspire people along the way. We want the world to know that who your are on the inside, how you treat others and what you create is more valuable than any material question you can acquire.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The spring or Oktoberfest would be a definite event to hit up. The fest food, rides games are a lot of fun! Chocolate popcorn and Langos are must-haves! So many great wines and beers that are crafted in Germany to try responsibly during their stay. The museum nights in Frankfurt and Stuttgart would also be a memorable event. The kicks and coffee sneaker convention is great too. And Germany is a great starting point to hop to other historic European countries and cities like Paris, Amsterdam, and Monaco.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to all of my comrades in the Marine Corps and Army who’ve supported Soul Ova Gold over the years. My good friends Manny, Marcus, Wolf, Stephen Scaratino, Jonathan Harris, Ajdin, Ankush, Siv, Charles, Robse, Sandra, Alexandra, Upscale Uptown, and Caddy Pak who’ve all helped bring Soul Ova Gold to life. My kids Jonas and Miriam for being excited about what their dad is doing.
