Meet Wedly Cazy | Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wedly Cazy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wedly, what inspires you?
Being a stylist means continuously observing the world around you and drawing on its many sources of inspiration to create engaging, personal, and exciting looks. Experiencing different climates, cultures, local craft traditions, and aesthetics in various locations can expand my creative perspective. The uniqueness and creativity of everyday people can often provide unexpected yet valuable insights into fashion trends. Paintings, sculptures, architecture, and other design forms inspire my fashion styles. I often incorporate these art forms’ colors, patterns, styles, and concepts. The colors, patterns, and textures found in nature can be a significant source of inspiration for me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The journey into higher education and a professional career is challenging and inspiring for a first-generation college student. Hailing from a family where neither of my parents had completed their college education, I courageously embarked on a path filled with uncertainty, grit, and determination. As a first-gen college student, I stand out from my peers as a trailblazer who overcame numerous obstacles to enjoy professional success. My determination to pursue higher education sets me apart from those who follow in their family’s footsteps. Not having the built-in support system most students take for granted, I had to forge my path, relying on drive and ambition to succeed. I am most proud of my independence and ability to navigate the challenging world of academia, where no one in my family had ventured before. Getting where I am today professionally was not easy. I faced numerous obstacles to completing my college degrees, such as balancing work and study. However, I remained steadfast and reached out for help whenever needed, tapping into my college’s resources and support networks. I overcame challenges like imposter syndrome and the uncertainty of my post-college career plans through mentorships, internships, and networking events.
My experiences have taught me valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of self-belief. I discovered that tapping into my own resourcefulness and seeking help from others were crucial aspects of my journey that shaped my perspective and allowed me to grow. My story is a testament to the power of perseverance and commitment to one’s vision. I want the world to know that no matter where you come from, it is possible to overcome any obstacles if you have the passion and ambition to do so. My story serves as an inspiration for many other first-gen college students who face similar challenges. My journey speaks volumes about the importance of unwavering determination, fostering supportive relationships, and believing in oneself despite the odds. The path of a first-generation college student is full of challenges and triumphs. It is a story of one’s strength of character, insurmountable resilience, and unwavering commitment to education. I persisted, believed in my abilities, and created a bright future for myself and generations.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kim Shui, for allowing me to style my first show.
Noah Shelley, for being a great mentor and a genius in his field.
My mom and best friends Amma, Nnaemeka, Jalyssa, and Jordan, for providing emotional support during tough times, offering comfort, resilience, and understanding. They help me see perspectives I might not have considered myself. Having them makes my life’s journey more enjoyable and meaningful, enhancing my overall quality of life.
Of course, God.
