We had the good fortune of connecting with Clarissa Serrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clarissa, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important thing that I learned from business and career is that you have to trust yourself.

Trust yourself. Trust your gut feelings, trust your intuition. Trust that you have the ability to find the answers and take action in what you believe in.

As an entrepreneur, this is it. This is what you signed up for. As a business owner you wear so many hats, you have to be on top of your game because people rely on you to be an effective leader.

You ought to be sure of yourself 1000%. Being an entrepreneur requires complete confidence in yourself and knowing that you will be able to get through obstacles and challenges that come your way. Cause let me tell you, they come when you least expect it.

What I do know is that I have learned to trust myself. I’ve learned to trust myself enough to know that I can overcome any obstacle or challenge that comes my way.

You need to have that level of conviction for yourself and I feel like this was definitely one of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned in business and in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So recently, I’ve been tapping into my creative side again and dabbling into photography and design. I was really inspired when I was working with Young and Woke Society, and wanted to tap back into that energy. I knew that my background in retail, fashion, photography, marketing, and e-commerce sets me apart from others and I wanted to express my knowledge and talents in a way that helped others feel good about themselves.

Recently, I took a risk and decided to give it another go around but with an entirely new brand. In the beginning it definitely wasn’t easy and was quite scary at first but I believe that taking that risk was a necessity, not an option. What I’ve learned is that you have to take risks in business and in life. Risk taking is important in creating the life you desire.

I believe that in order to create the life that you desire, you will need to take a few risks, step outside of our comfort zone, and apply yourself. And that’s exactly what I did, I’m always taking risks in my life because I have accepted that risk taking is part of the journey.

What I’ve learned is that no matter how you slice it, when you look at the most impactful and successful people in the world there is one thread that ties them all together: they are all risk-takers. They understood that the fear of failing was not as big as the fear of regret from not taking action.

Life is not about wanting things, it’s about creating things. You create your life, and in order to create your life you need to take those risks. There is no way around it. Embrace it, it’s part of the journey.

This is what my brand represents. CC Astro Haus is a fashion/lifestyle brand all about self expression, individuality, and empowerment. It’s still in the works, but right now I have products available on Etsy. My goal for CC ASTRO HAUS is to create cute and stylish designs that help people embrace their individuality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay first off, I’m an LA native so I loooooooove to show people around the city! As a marketer I naturally like to tailor the LA experience based on the other persons vibe or personality BUT if I were to plan a whole week of LA shenanigans, here is how it would look.

Monday: Downtown LA. Bruch at Broken Shaker, followed by the Broad Museum. Lunch/Dinner at Grand Central Market then shopping at FIGat7th.

Tuesday: Silverlake. Breakfast at Sqirl. Drive up to Silverlake Junction pick up a coffee at La Columbe and walk around Sunset Blvd.’s boutiques and cute cafes. Afternoon açaí bool at Roots & Rye, check out Echo Park maybe go on that swan boat thing. Dinner at Masa

Wednesday: Hollywood. Morning hike at Griffith Park, after hike açaí bowls at Ricks Produce. Afternoon Hollywood Tour (yes, with that double decker bus). Dinner and drinks at Mama Shelters

Thursday: Melrose. Breakfast at Blu Jam Cafe. Then walk around Melrose & Fairfax District. Check out the Grove. Dinner and drinks at Gracias Madre or Catch LA

Friday: Beach Day. Paradise Cove Beach Cafe. Drive down to Venice Beach to see Venice Canals and dinner and drinks at The Pier House.

These are some of my all time favorite spots! I absolutely love LA and even though I am a born and raised Angeleno, there are still so many gems in LA to be discovered <3 Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A HUGE shoutout to all the people who believed in me, when I didn’t even believed in myself. To all those people who picked me up, when I was down. And to all those people who supported me when I started out, y’all know who you are and I am so thankful for each one of you.

But I’d like to show a little extra love to my family, especially my mom. She is absolutely incredible and I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for her love and support. She has been there for me through thick and thin and has been my rock through it all.

Also, I’d like to thank my mentors that have helped me along the way: Owen Cook, Eric Mitchell, Legacy, Markus Biegel, Pastor RC Blakes, Bella G, and of course my spiritual mentor Charlene Lizette. Thank you all for your knowledge and guidance.

Lastly, I’d like to shoutout Ray Dalio! If you don’t know who he is, google him. He is one of the wealthiest and successful hedge fund managers, and he wrote a book that completely changed my mindset on life and career called “Principles.” This book is so insightful and has helped me understand how to live my life and career based on principles that help me become a better person. I love it, and I think you’d love it too 🙂
