Meet Will Bryan | Broadway voice teacher, coach and pianist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Bryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’ve been fairly successful in a couple other fields. I was a story editor at a Hollywood film distribution company, I worked on Wall Street. – there were a few others. The reason I’m a successful Broadway vocal coach is because I truly love my work and I’m deeply satisfied at the end of each day. I also bring to it a “business brain” that helps my students always see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m very goal oriented!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a voice teacher, acting coach, and pianist for Broadway singers. I call it one-stop shopping! Not many people do all three jobs. On 9/11, I was working across the street from the World Trade Center, walked home covered in dust, and decided never to go back. With the help of an incredible therapist, I started this business and never looked back. It was tough! Didn’t have a date or go out to dinner for a couple years but it was so worth it! If you’re going to be successful in the arts put on the blinders for a couple years and keep on walking. It does get easier.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in New York City, used to live in Paris and visit Rome a lot, so I’m going to choose all three! Obviously, I’d take them to see a Broadway show that one of my students is in. That’s always a blast! Little Italy in The Bronx is a secret favorite spot. In Paris, as cheesy as it sounds, go to Versailles, then go back into town and have a dinner at Cafe St. Regis. Favorite museum in Rome- Palazzo Doria Pamphilj.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I was very fortunate to have incredible teachers as a teenager growing up in lower Alabama. It was pure luck that my voice teacher had sung with Bernstein and my piano teacher had graduated from the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Synchronicity has played a huge part in my success. In a way, you create your synchronicity by being open to it and ready for it. A couple life -changing books: “Flow” by Csikszentmihalyi, and “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle.
