We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Reardon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein. If you are “dog person” prepare to cry, if you are just a regular old “people person”, you may want to keep the tissues on reserve even. This book is a phenomenal story about a man and his dog. The story is told from the dog’s perspective , and it hits on the highest of highs and the the lowest of lows in life. The dog is man’s best friend and they overcome all obstacles in life with un-ending love and hard work. My wife and I read this book out-loud together when we first started dating. We always had the company of my now 9.5 year old black lab while reading the book and often had to stop to give him an extra hug or even cry. This book built our relationship stronger by experiencing the emotions together and on a personal level, made me realize just how important my dog was to her, and how important love in general was to her!
What should our readers know about your business?
As a business, we offer contracted turfgrass aeration services to golf courses, athletic fields and even high-end landscapes. We are always adapting to market demands to better serve our customers and we try to stay involved in local associations, etc. to anticipate those demands. I have worked in the turfgrass industry for many years now, I have specifically been in contracted aeration services for 9 years now. I became involved with DryJect technologies in 2014, the offerings that this technology has is very exciting to me due to its unique system and the results that it yields. It was not “easy” to get to where I am today, but it honestly does not feel like a huge struggle because I truly do love what I do on a daily basis and the majority of the results that we get are derived from the fact that I enjoy the work and would be doing this work regardless of owning the business or not! I have certainly learned a few lessons along my journey so far. Primarily, surround yourself with relationships to those who will keep you in the right position to be successful. This includes references, technical advice, FINANCIAL advice and of course personal support. DryJect Southwest is service oriented company that ultimately thrives on the product that our customers can provide to their end-users, including golfers, athletes, universities and businesses in general. I have been in the shoes of turf managers and I try to use that experience to help my services seamlessly fit into their management practices, with a focus on time frames and overall value.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I lived in Huntington Beach for a few years, I always enjoy some drinks/food down by the pier along with a nice beach visit. I also enjoy anything that involves outdoors and engines, so I would highly recommend a camping trip out to the deserts in to do some off-roading! I grew up in Philadelphia, so most of my out-of-town visitors schedule their trip around the Phillies’ and Eagles’ schedules. On a non-Covid year, we always get at least one Phillies @ Dodgers and/or Eagles @ Rams game. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It all starts and ends with family. They are the first people in your life, and they are the last ones that you see before you close your eyes every night. On a professional level, I have a had a few “Turf Fathers” as I like to say. They have taken me under their wings to shed both their Industry and life experiences onto me so that I could develop into who I am today.
