We had the good fortune of connecting with X.Darvi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi X.Darvi, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balance now comes from a natural flow versus when I would overwork myself to get pieces finished. For me, art is a bit more spiritual. I like to let my intuition be the guide to my creativity and I trust it to also bring me balance. I trust that no matter what the process is for a specific painting, It will say what it wants to in time, through me, on its own. So now I feel there is no need to force anything because work-life in art or my creativity balances itself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a portrait artist, I paint black women and my goal is to create representation in fine art for us. My style of art is still being developed and perfected, but mostly when it comes to painting, I am doing it intuitively. I’m excited to see how my journey to find myself reflects through my art along the way. My ideas are changing as I figure out what it is I truly want to say and express artistically. I got to where I am today by doing a lot of research, definitely getting out of my comfort zone, and being open to trying new things in art. It’s not always easy but I’ve learned that after doing it once, the next time will be so much better. I allow myself to learn from every mistake and that’s what keeps me motivated. I want the world to know that I growing into myself and as an artist. As I go on, they’ll get to witness in real time the blossoming of the flower I am.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course, I’d take them to downtown Las Vegas. The Art Factory is a great place to visit during the week because artists are there working in their galleries. You get to see their art and the process it takes to make it and meet them up close. It’s pretty cool. There are also many great places to eat like Eureka is one of my favorite places to dine downtown so far. Container Park is also a nice chill spot to just hang out or have a coffee/snack. I enjoy downtown mostly for its public art and I love to see any new installs. Over the years the city has expanded the art scene a ton and so showing my bestie around to see that would be everything.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my mentor L.P Aekili for giving me so many tools to move my career forward. I also want to recognize the women in my life that have been my biggest supporters. Thank you, Mom (Shamika), Nana (Marva), and TT (Shawanna). One last shout-out to anyone who has ever bought art from me or even just came to an event to support me, I greatly appreciate you all so much.
