We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Erickson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Never Doubt Your Power. It’s one of the mottos of not only my life, but my business. Everyone has the power within them to achieve their goals and not only do you need to believe in yourself, others need to respect your ability and dreams. If you put your full energy and desire behind your goals, anything is achieveable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
People are always trying to pigeon hole you creatively, so I wrap up everything I am in one word: storyteller. No matter the medium- film & tv, novels, or even painting, it’s about electing emotions through the telling of a tale.
It has not been easy and I have definitely had my challenges, but I learned from those hard times and used that experience to move forward and part of that was branding my production company as Viking Dog. It’s about attitude. It’s about drive. Bite. Edge. The overall feeling that this company doesn’t just create, but dominate. And it was also something special. Something inside. It’s an attitude. It’s an approach. It’s a state of being, a state of mind. It encapsulated the approach that I bring to filmmaking and entertainment and the boldness that I want in those around me. Because anyone can be a Viking Dog.
I had a lot to learn and still do. How to listen and pivot. How to give back through education and charity. It’s all part of a bigger picture.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a fan of road trips and California has so many places to go. I would rent a convertible and we would hit the highway. Up PCH to Santa Barbara and beyond, stopping for seafood on the coast. Watching the dolphins play in the surf as the sun sets in the west. And back around, through the mountains and deserts and join up with Route 66 to see the fading history of the road well-travelled. All the while talking with everyone we came across and listening to their stories. Everyone has an adventure and if you are lucky enough to learn a bit about it, it makes you a richer person.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people who have supported and taught me along my journey, but no more than my mother. Even beyond the normal love that a mother gives their child, she has taught me about life, business and human nature. She is a continuing source of inspiration, not just as a mom, but artistically. She consistently reinvents herself and is still learning, and challenging herself.
Other: In addition to our films and books, Viking Dog has an inspirational product line which we feature on TheVikingDogStore.com. A percentage of all sales go to wolf rescue, including some designs which give 100% of proceeds.
