We had the good fortune of connecting with Josie Molasky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josie, what are you inspired by?
I’m really inspired by the human experience that we all understand through our shared emotions. Whether we’re going through times of joy, sadness, anxiety, or bliss – music affects the way we see the world. Through a different lens or an artistic interpretation, we can begin to unpack the meaning behind why we do the things that we do. I call on moments in my life to create songs that come from a place of honesty and see a reflection of myself and the people in my life through art.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art in its many forms has impacted me greatly throughout different points in my life. As an artist, I dive deeper into the quality that makes us all so relatable to each other as human beings, which is our capacity to understand our feelings. The process of turning my perception of situations into something beautiful through song has been a transformative experience for me from when I was a young child to now as a young adult. It’s taken a while to find the writing style that I felt was right for me but I finally feel like I’ve found it with my new project and I’m excited to share it with the world! After graduating college, I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a singer and songwriter. Currently, I am creating music for a duo called “Good Rzn” with my partner and producer, Tommy Ghirardini. One challenge that we faced was having to change our band name. After about 6 months of releasing music, we realized we needed to differentiate ourselves with a more unique branding approach than what we had before. We decided to take time to focus on developing our songwriting process, style, and long-term vision which gave way to us coming up with a sound and artistic identity for “Good Rzn” that feels true to ourselves. Our style is rooted in the different genres we grew up listening to ranging from classic rock to electronic music. We’ve found a way to blend and layer different elements in our music in order to create what we feel is our best work yet. I’m really proud of our new songs and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think Los Angeles is a really amazing place to live. It’s great for friends to visit here and we love having people come over to our studio! Going to see live shows or just hanging out together playing music with friends always makes for a good time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always supported my creativity and my dreams of being an artist. I’m really grateful for their love and encouragement. Learning to play the piano, violin, and guitar has given me the opportunity to understand composition, accompany myself and sing the songs I’ve always wanted to. My partner in music and in life, Tommy Ghirardini, played a big part in my decision to start releasing original songs and I’m so happy that he is on this journey with me. We write, record and perform music together as an alternative duo under the name “Good Rzn”. His talent and passion has really changed the way I see music.
