We had the good fortune of connecting with Yasmine Creese-brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yasmine, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
In a heartfelt decision, I have chosen to walk away from my previous project, Grlpire, and retire my hobby of creating science-fiction comic books to pursue something that holds a more profound significance in my life: Steams Bible Study. For years, Grlpire provided an outlet for my creativity and storytelling, allowing me to create imaginative worlds and characters. However, my passion for education and my deep desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of others have led me to focus my energy on STEAMS and all it represents.

STEAMS stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies—an interdisciplinary approach to learning that I believe can transform education in profound ways. Our vision is both bold and clear: to offer fun, printable, project-based activities that are freely accessible and downloadable, making high-quality educational resources available to all. This vision is realized through Project Board Game, the organization I have devoted myself to building.

Our work is further supported by two key initiatives. Steams Bible Study, found at steamsbiblestudy.com, is especially dear to me, as it seamlessly blends my faith in Jesus with my love for education. It offers free, faith-centered study guides that explore biblical narratives through the lens of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies, helping learners connect the scriptures with practical knowledge.

Additionally, Steams Initiative extends this interdisciplinary model to a broader educational audience. It provides a wealth of free project-based lesson plans, designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning. By integrating multiple subjects into engaging, hands-on projects, we aim to empower learners with the tools they need to thrive in the modern world.

Through these initiatives, Project Board Game serves as a vehicle for change, offering education that is not only fun but also accessible to learners everywhere, especially those in underserved communities.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my unique ability to blend creativity, faith, and education into meaningful and impactful work. My experience spans several industries, but my passion for education, community empowerment, and personal development has always been at the forefront of my journey. Currently, I serve as a Senior Career Development Advisor at SEO (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity), where I’ve had the privilege of guiding and mentoring individuals as they pursue their career goals. In my seven years with SEO, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of providing the right resources and support to help others succeed. Prior to that, I held various positions, including as a Hedge Fund Accountant at Stone Coast Fund Services and a Wealth Management Trainee at HSBC, each of which helped shape my understanding of finance, leadership, and strategic growth.

One of the projects I’m most proud of is Project Board Game, an organization I founded to make education fun, accessible, and impactful. Through our Steams initiative, we provide free, project-based learning activities that combine Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to explore various subjects in an interconnected way that fosters creativity and critical thinking. Our work with Steams Bible Study is particularly meaningful to me, as it merges my love for teaching with my deep faith in Jesus.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Like many, I’ve faced challenges along the way, including moments of doubt and big decisions, like retiring Grlpire, my hobby of creating science-fiction comic books to fully focus on STEAMS. I’ve learned that perseverance, faith, and trusting your vision are essential. But also taking your time. Leaning into my faith and drawing strength from God’s grace and patience has helped me through the hardest times, and I’m constantly reminded of the importance of giving back and making a difference in the world.

Through my journey, one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of staying true to your purpose. I want the world to know that STEAMS is not just about education; it’s about equipping the next generation with the tools they need to thrive in a constantly changing world. Through Project Board Game, we are working to create lasting change by making high-quality learning resources accessible to children everywhere, especially those in underserved communities.

Each of these experiences has brought me closer to fulfilling my passion for education and creating positive, lasting change.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Fresno for a week, I’d definitely start by taking them to some of my favorite local spots, including grabbing Boba Tea, exploring Art Hop and River Park, one of my go-to hangouts. There’s something so relaxing about strolling through River Park’s shops, grabbing a bite to eat, and just enjoying the laid-back vibe. But, to make this trip extra special, I’d also make it a point to explore some new places because, honestly, I need to get out more and discover all that Fresno and the surrounding areas have to offer!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think I’d be remiss not to mention Jesus as my inspiration. Gaining a deeper understanding of the Faith as an adult has been life-changing for me. Learning to lean into His grace and patience has helped me through the most challenging moments of my life. As someone who has faced their fair share of battles, I’m constantly reminded that we all share common emotions that can seem overwhelming, disparaging, or dismaying. Sometimes we feed and cover these emotions with things that are fleeting and hold little value in the long term. His story and presence in my life constantly remind me that our heart is what’s most important. It guides us through the whirlwinds of life, and His teachings truly speak to the heart.

I think focusing on having a pure heart filled with love is especially important during these trying times. When I need to regroup after a bad day, I always try to reflect on the feelings of the people I interacted with that day. Did I do my best to treat them with respect, or did I let my emotions get the best of me? Colossians 4:5-6 NIV is a powerful reminder of how our efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement of others should look:

“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

I’m so thankful for Him.
