Meet Yeltsin Penado: Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yeltsin Penado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yeltsin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always respected other artists and love collaborating. I get a sense of freedom when I approach a new project. A new project is a challenge to convey my thoughts and ideas into a tangible format for others to experience. I like that art can be a pursuit of knowledge and empathy. I decided to pursue a creative career because I am interested in learning and collaborating with other creative thinkers. Art is very welcoming and communal. I enjoy that my career path allows me to engage with talented and bold thinkers.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art tends to be narratives of blended subjects and experiences. I like to tap into the senses and emotions of the viewer. I strive to make work that allows someone to enter imaginative spaces. I am an artist that works in a few different mediums. I have been exploring creative writing, music, animation and film making. My path to where I am professionally has been interesting. It’s never easy being an artist, but it feels very natural. Overcoming failure and embracing criticism is how I was able to face any challenges. It’s important to devote time and space to exploring new mediums and letting the mind wander and discover. I’ve always wanted to know and learn new mediums and processes, I am constantly impressed and inspired by my colleagues and fellow artists. Some of the lessons I have learned along the way is to stay active, always participate, try something new, and go big – go all out. Something I want people to know about me and my brand: Humor and irony are some of my favorite themes, I’m interested in the way people engage with the space around them – I also really like gradients.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Go to the beach. I grew up by the ocean, the Pacific Ocean is vast and deep; strange things wash up, there are also a vast and endless horizon that provides the setting for beautiful coastal sunsets. Beaches can be interesting at night or early in the morning. I also suggest hiking. I spent my childhood hiking through the various trails in the Santa Monica Mountains. I suggest hiking during a meteor shower. Mt. Allen is a great peak to climb with a vary interesting and isolated trail.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to May Roded. I am thankful to have her in my life. I am very grateful to have someone that encourages and supports me.
