We had the good fortune of connecting with Yichun Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yichun, why did you pursue a creative career?
Taiwan is a wonderful island where I am from. I was conscious of my distinct eyesight from an early age. I am easily influenced by visuals and images. I am always able to examine a subject from a new perspective and visualize it through drawing. I developed a career path in art and design with the help of my family and teachers. Artists communicate their worldview through the act of creation. From the same vantage point, I sometimes perceive things differently than the majority of people do. I want to demonstrate that even identical things can possess a distinguishing quality that sets them apart from others. This is why I produced the series “Urban Impression” and “A Night in Taipei.” Having grown up in Taipei, I would like to show everyone what makes the city so wonderful. I’ve always desired to promote the culture of my community. Without the need of language, art may express ideas across the globe. That’s why I came to the United States, a nation that embraces other cultures. In this situation, you are more likely to experience inspiration. You can obtain a greater grasp of the world through conversing with various individuals. You can get knowledge about various subjects and experience the fervor of individuals from diverse origins. Through my artistic expression, I hope to expose more individuals to Taiwan’s splendor in the future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The most remarkable aspect of me and my artwork is my bold use of color. I enjoy experimenting with varied hues in various types of creativity. Typically, it requires a great deal of time and effort, but I adore it! Aside from commercial work, the majority of my personal artworks are daring and adventurous. Platinum Winner of the MUSE Creative Awards and Runner-up of Creative Quarterly 70, “Taichung Public Library Brand Identity” is the artwork in which I attempted to strike a balance between opposing aspects. “The Coolest Club” is a short film poster that I designed for the award-winning filmmaker Sheng Ting Shen. It is an amalgamation of colors and elements. This year, the poster for “The Coolest Club” also won the Graphic Design USA prize.
As an introvert, I am frequently perceived as a very quiet and well-mannered child. Conflict exists between me and my artwork. I am always drawn to vibrant things and desire to create them. Using colors and lines, I create distinctive shapes from my ideas. This exemplifies the appeal of my work. Through my creations, I wish to show others the world from my perspective.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recommend Williamsburg in Brooklyn. There are numerous independent boutiques there. Additionally, many artists reside in this region! The streets are replete with art. I enjoy browsing the thrift stores and art bookstores here. Additionally, there are numerous eateries and coffee shops in this area. I adore spending time in coffee shops and enjoying picnics in parks. After that, you can take the metro to Dumbo to view the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. Brooklyn is one of the most interesting destinations in New York!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout to my parents. They consistently support me in my endeavors. My family is aware of my childhood passion for creative endeavors. I was encouraged to continue creating rather than being instructed to cease. No matter how little they knew about the art industry, they always supported and never questioned my desire to move to the United States. They always have faith in me for whatever endeavor. My mother has continuously pushed me to be strict and to do my best throughout my entire life. My father had spent eleven years living alone in America. He taught me the significance of expanding my perspective of the world. In addition, he is one of the reasons I came to New York! In addition, I would want to acknowledge all the teachers who have assisted me. Fortunately, my student life was filled with teachers who encouraged me to pursue my aspirations. I am quite grateful to them for shedding light on my future plans.
