We had the good fortune of connecting with Yolanda Felton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yolanda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has been a huge part of my professional and personal life. I didn’t grow up as a risk taker. I was a firm rule follower, until I started traveling. Seeing the world opened my eyes. There are so many ways to approach life, and so many potential paths. I went to law school and practiced labor and employment defense after graduation. After a few years, I decided to transition into real estate sales, which was at the time a huge risk.

Once I obtained my broker’s license, I joined a large national brokerage. After a few years of learning the ropes and getting transactions under my belt, it occurred to me that I could go out on my own. I decided to start my own real estate brokerage and Haven Real Estate Group was born in 2019. It was another huge career risk, but I’ve never looked back.

What should our readers know about your business?
Haven Real Estate Group specializes in Los Angeles real estate with a unique social impact. Three percent of all broker commissions earned are donated to local organizations committed to the unhoused. I’m most proud of this commitment, and I think it makes us unique amongst the many brokerages in the LA area.

One of the things I love the most about Haven is our commitment to diversity. There’s not enough representation across the real estate industry, and one of my goals is to change that. We’re also truly a community brokerage. I live in the mid-Wilshire area, and our office space is downtown, in the heart of the city.

Haven primarily represents buyers and sellers in residential sales. We also do residential and commercial leases and offer property management and relocation services.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start with a drive through Hollywood and some time at the Farmer’s Market and the Grove. After a KBBQ lunch, we’d head east and spend some time shopping in Los Feliz and grabbing coffee in Silver Lake, before having drinks and dinner downtown.

I’d start the second day in Beverly Hills and do Venice and Santa Monica, with sunset drinks and dinner in Malibu. I’d also take them to the South Bay one day, for a beachside brunch in Manhattan Beach.

Must see places would include Runyon Canyon (for the views), Griffith Observatory, LACMA, and the Broad.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to the amazing organizations around this great city, committed to helping the unhoused day in and day out. Haven is committed to partnering with these groups to improve life for all Angelenos. I’ve committed to donating three percent of my broker commissions earned to groups such as Downtown Women’s Center and Los Angeles Mission. I’m inspired by their tireless efforts.
