We had the good fortune of connecting with Yoonha Verse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yoonha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I take calculated risks and always try to push myself to be more risk taking than not. I think about what’s the worst thing that can happen and usually, the “worst outcome” is nothing devastating that I can’t handle. I refuse to move based on fear and personally think it’s way more fun to live this way. The biggest risk I’ve taken so far was quitting my 9-5 and moving to LA to pursue music, and I don’t regret it one bit. We’ll see where it takes me!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an immigrant who moved from South Korea to the States at the age of 13, so deciding to pursue music was definitely not easy. I mean, the odds were stacked against me heavily whether it’s English being my second language or the lack of Asian American representation in the music industry, period. I believe it’s about time we change that though. With all that said, I’m very passionate about encouraging people to go after what they truly find joy in, and I hope to inspire as many people to do so by being a living example. You can check out my recent single ‘How Come’ where I talk more about my journey so far and what I’m going to manifest.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I need to get this itinerary from other people since I’ve only lived here for a year, and half of that was during the pandemic! Once things start opening back up, I can’t wait to OD on all the live shows that happen in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna give a shoutout to my producer friend Kevin Qin aka Dr. Q! Kevin has been my go-to producer and engineer ever since I moved to LA, and he’s helped me so much in terms of getting my feet wet in the music industry. Not only that, but I’ve also met some incredible, genuine creatives through him, and I am very grateful to call all of them my good friends now. I appreciate ya, Kevin!
